Overview: The Maintenance Managermanages and coordinates the activities of subordinates (hourly employees) engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment, often involving the fabrication of parts and tooling. The Maintenance Manager also oversees all aspects of maintenance scheduling including staffing and stocking as well as restorative and preventive maintenance plans.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Resolves problems by implementing innovative solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Analyzes trends in departmental data and drafts weekly metric reports.
- Confers with management team and production staff to determine feasibility and cost effectiveness of projects, equipment, and repairs.
- Advises management team of project developments which may affect schedule, and/or costs.
- Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.
- Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
- Instructs employees in the protocols involved with electrical, electronic, robotic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
- Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment including robots and automation.
- Directs workers engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
- Maintains spare parts storeroom. Proactively orders replacement parts and back stock materials.
- Studies production schedules and estimates departmental staffing requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Enforces safety regulations.
- Enforces good housekeeping practices and maintains an organized work environment.
- Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Oversees overtime and attendance production records within department.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Performs activities of workers supervised.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises Maintenance employees of the Maintenance Department.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
- Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
- Minimum 5 years work experience in a related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years related experience supervising a maintenance crew in a unionized environment.

Communication Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Computer Skills:
- Ability to navigate basic technology including be not limited to use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks, and other systems where applicable.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to troubleshoot robots/automation using PLC ladder logic a plus.
Other Qualifications:
- Must have working knowledge in the areas of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and fabrication.
- Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance systems
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts.
- Ability to use carts, dollies, cranes and jacks to transport material if needed.
- Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 60lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs to reach work at potential heights of 30 ft or more.
- Ability to navigate narrow walkways, confined spaces and overhead mezzanines.
- High Tolerance for potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery.
- Ability to acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in workspaces.
- Must always wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
- Comfortability working in confined work environments.
Work Environment:
The Maintenance Manager interacts with historic machinery throughout the facility which often involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. Maintenance Manager will encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation throughout the facility which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances. There are areas of paved and unpaved walkway, active shipping lanes and occasionally standing water to be cautious of.
