Maintains, repairs, and installs power on H.V.A.C. and refrigeration equipment in campus housing and university buildings by performing the following duties.
Maintains, inspects and installs all heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, fans, vacuum pumps, air compressors, vents, ducts, and pneumatic and DDC control systems on the university campus. Rotates weekend shifts to take call for emergency service calls including repairs beyond normal work hours as required. Must be within twenty minutes of the University for quick response when on call. Cross trained to operate automatically fired boilers, chillers and perform maintenance on chilled water systems throughout campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Lights gas feed burners. Cleans boilers and auxiliary equipment. Installs and services heating and refrigeration equipment by performing the following: Wiring installations for all H.V.A.C. equipment. Assists power plant operators for all electrical problems.
Assembles and positions heating units in accordance with diagrams and regulations. Cuts holes in floors and walls to form air duct outlets. Installs air ducts, smoke pipes, blowers. Wraps insulation around air ducts. Connects and adjusts timers and thermostats.
Inspects inoperative heating units to locate causes of trouble. Disassembles heating unit and replaces or repairs defective parts. Cuts, bends, and crimps sheet metal to repair furnace and stove vents and pipes. Reassembles and starts heating unit to test operation. Recovers and adds freon as needed. Adjusts valves to regulate temperature and flow of water thru system; repairs and replaces circulating pumps; moves controls to regulate speed of fans and to adjust vents and ducts. Inspects equipment to detect excessive noise and heat. Replaces gauges and tightens and caulks leaky fittings. Cleans carbon deposits, pitch and grease from fans, vents and ducts.

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or at least two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
