Overview: Supervises a wide range of reactive and preventative maintenance projects across all departments including but not limited to Forge, Extrusion, Die, Machining and Processing specific areas. Coordinates various activities of individual workers within the maintenance department and collaborates on internal fabrication of metal parts and tooling as needed to supplement repair and or improve processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on process equipment. Examine parts equipment for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear. Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery.
- Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
- Supports workers with dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
- Initiates material, tool, and equipment requisitions and communicates with third party vendors.
- Troubleshoots robots/automation.
- Maintain parts inventory, tools and supplies.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Reports estimated down time of production and prognosis of machine defects
- Enforces, promotes, adheres to safety protocols and regulations.
- Exemplifies good housekeeping practices and maintains an organized work environment.
- Interprets and translates updated specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Seeks to improve quality of products, lifespan of equipment and tool/resource organization.
- Invents, innovates or implements process improvements to increase efficiency of production, or performance or equipment and employees.
- Actively participates in talent development, team engagement and new hire training.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Shares responsibly of standard work items and performs other duties as requested
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises upwards of 15 employees within the Maintenance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing environment or related field.
- Journeyman Apprenticeship or completion of comparable technical training required.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Familiarity with unionized workforce preferred.

- Ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

- Ability to decipher, translate and explain machine blueprints, repair instructions, mechanical data and safety procedures.

Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to understand and perform intermediate to advanced mathematics including but not limited to proportions, physics, algebra and geometry.
Computer Skills:
- Experience with Microsoft office, Excel, PowerPoint and related software
- Comfortability with digital tools, scales and calibration systems
- Confidence with digital self service platforms, emails, and time clocks
- Experience with Plex is preferred.
Additional Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Excellent troubleshooting ability with mechanical inclination
- Experience with robots/automation and/or using PLC ladder logic a plus
- Foundational knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic tools
- Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance tactics
- Experience with supporting internal tool development and equipment sourcing
Physical Demands:
- Frequent use hands or fingers to handle, inspect, clean and audit equipment.
- Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts
- Use carts, dollies, cranes and jacks to transport material if needed
- Climbing ladders and stairs to reach work at potential heights of 30ft or more
- Navigate narrow walkways, confined spaces and overhead mezzanines
- Tolerate potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery
- Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in work spaces
- Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
- Lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
Work Environment:
The Maintenance Supervisor will work throughout all departments in our facility and will frequently interact with historic machinery which often involves close proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. This role will be exposed to confined spaces, moving mechanical parts, risk of shock, and exposure to chemicals. The Maintenance Supervisor will encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation throughout the facility which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances. There are areas of paved and unpaved walkway, rail cart systems, open flames, active shipping lanes and occasionally standing water to be cautious of.
