Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Electrician to join our team at Miami New Drama. The Electrician works under the supervision of the Head Electrician to execute all lighting and electrical elements of the production. This includes the installation, operation, and maintenance of the lighting plot as designed by the Lighting Designer. The Electrician collaborates with the lighting team to ensure all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest artistic standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the safe and accurate hanging, cabling, and focus of all lighting instruments as specified in the lighting plot.
- Verify equipment placement and patching as per the lighting design documentation.
- Operate lighting equipment during technical rehearsals and performances as assigned.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor issues with lighting fixtures or cabling during the run of the show.
- Perform routine maintenance on lighting instruments and related equipment.
- Assist in the repair or replacement of malfunctioning fixtures, dimmers, or cables.
- Assist with the wiring, installation, and testing of practicals and special effects.
- Ensure all practical elements are functional and meet safety standards.
- Follow instructions from the Head Electrician and collaborate with other crew members to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Communicate any challenges or delays to the Head Electrician promptly.
- Adhere to all theatre safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of electrical equipment.
- Report any potential hazards or unsafe conditions to the Head Electrician immediately.
Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of theatrical lighting systems, instruments, and consoles.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in dark, confined, or elevated spaces.
- Familiarity with wiring, electrical systems, and safety standards in a theatrical environment.
- Ability to work at heights using ladders, lifts, and catwalks.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Capacity to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
Schedule and Expectations:
- Availability for technical rehearsals, show calls, and strikes as scheduled.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the production schedule.
