General Description
The Texas Water Data Hub project team is seeking a motivated and exceptionally detail-oriented communicator who will be dedicated to sharing stories about data and our state’s most important resource: water.
As part of the Water Data Team, performs entry-level to complex work involving interpretation of complex material and composition of content understandable to diverse audiences. Coordinates and executes the research, writing, editing, and distribution of content and materials related to the Texas Water Data Hub and serves as liaison to the Communications Department. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the team lead of the Water Data Hub Team in the Office of Water Science and Conservation.
Essential Job Functions
· Performs editorial work, revising content for readability, brevity, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and adherence to project style guide.
· Serves as liaison between the Texas Water Data Hub and Agency Communications staff.
· Serves as primary liaison between the Texas Water Data Hub and the contracted vendor to assist in the development of the communications and marketing plan and ensure its completion.
· Tracks the implementation of the Texas Water Data Hub marketing plan.
· Updates and maintains Texas Water Data Hub media tool kit.
· Assists with developing social media content and coordinates with Communications staff to promote the Texas Water Data Hub through the agency’s social platforms.
· Collects, maintains, and composes e-newsletter content and other written outreach materials to promote the Texas Water Data Hub.
· Markets the Texas Water Data Hub to appropriate audiences to increase awareness and interest.
· Assists Hub Administrator in developing training materials and videos for Texas Water Data Hub users.
- Identifies and catalogs key conferences, workshops, and events for connecting with potential Texas Water Data Hub data producers and/or users.
- Ensures consistency with TWDB and Texas Water Data Hub brand and style guidelines.
· Assists with researching and developing engaging content, such as articles, website copy, marketing materials, social media posts, e-blasts, and other forms of communication for target audiences.
· Develops compelling narratives that effectively communicate the Texas Water Data Hub’s message, vision, and values.
· Aids in developing presentations, op-eds, and other content for the project team as needed, ensuring clarity and mission alignment.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
· A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Communications, or a closely related field.
· At least two years of experience in journalism, public relations, public information, communications, or a content creation role, including speech writing, grant writing or similar.
Preferred Qualifications
· Four or more years of experience in editorial management, speech writing, storytelling, or content strategy.
· Previous experience with writing and editing publications and preparing materials for print.
· Experience in a government or non-profit environment with a heavy emphasis on writing and editing.
