This supervisory position exists for a Master Plumber to oversee the work of licensed plumbers, for the Pipe Shop at the Department of Administration which maintains the buildings on the Capitol Complex in St. Paul, Minnesota. This supervisor will be responsible to direct work to ensure services are being provided efficiently and safely throughout the complex; to ensure the Pipe Shop is properly staffed; and to provide hands on plumbing, and HVAC trades work as required.

- One (1) year supervisory or lead work experience within the last five (5) years over one or more skilled trades effectively giving verbal and written work instructions and directing and critiquing the work of subordinate staff.
Licensure Requirements:
- Current Master Plumber license issued by the State of MN.
- Current Backflow Prevention Certification (Applicants who do not currently possess Backflow Prevention Certification must obtain one within one year of hire).
- Current City of St. Paul Certificate of Competency as a Master Plumber (Applicants who do not currently possess this Certification must obtain within one year of hire)
- Must possess a valid Minnesota driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills sufficient to utilize Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Human relations and communication skills to coordinate with staff, trades supervisors, contractors, and vendors.
- Outstanding oral and written communication abilities sufficient to share information to a variety of audiences.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience communicating, advising, and providing cost estimates to customers.
- Basic computer skills sufficient to utilize Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of current plumbing, sanitary foundation, high pressure piping, fire sprinkler, and HVAC building codes.
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration repair and maintenance practices.
- Human relation and communication skills to coordinate with staff, trades supervisors, contractors, and vendors.
- Customer service skills sufficient to satisfy the needs of high demand customers at multiple locations.
- Outstanding oral and written communication abilities sufficient to share information to a variety of audiences.
- Experience supervising in a union environment.
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
- Experience with Archibus work order management system or similar work order system.
- Writing skills sufficient to organize and write performance reviews and investigation reports.
- Experience with public water supply systems and/or water operator licensure of a class D or larger system.
- Ability to obtain backflow preventor certification for testing and rebuilding within 1 year of employment.
Successful candidate must pass: pre-employment physical (CRT TEST REQUIREMENT MINIMUM IS MEDIUM, EX: ABLE TO LIFT 36-50 LBS FREQUENTLY 1-100 REPS AN HOUR)
