POSITION SUMMARY
Through a combination of coursework and on-the-job training, the apprentice will learn the skills of a full-time Ammonia Refrigeration Technician. A fully trained Ammonia Refrigeration Technician efficiently controls the operation of the Plant’s Refrigeration System and Chilled Water System including all attendant support systems.
APPRENTICE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE DIRECTION OF PROPER SUPERVISION:
- Through the use of all Control Room and/or local controls and instrumentation, monitor, track and make all required adjustments to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Ammonia Refrigeration System and the Chilled Water System
- Perform all visual inspections, testing and documentation preparation as required by the appropriate Governmental authorities or as otherwise may be required by Nestlé
- Perform all Work Orders as directed by supervisor
- Maintain a daily communication link to production supervisors on all shifts to prevent unforeseen/unscheduled situations
- Coordinate all maintenance activities to be done by Nestlé Maintenance personnel or outside vendors, contractors, or suppliers. In the event an "evacuation" procedure is required prior to maintenance being done, the evacuation procedure will be done by either the assigned Nestlé maintenance personnel or by the assigned vendors/ suppliers/ contractors under the direction of the Nestlé Gold Seal Engineer or by other licensed Nestlé personnel, other than the licensed Ammonia Engineers working in the Ammonia Engine Room, unless the equipment to be evacuated is within the confines of the Ammonia Engine Room, in which case the evacuation can be done under the direction of the licensed Ammonia Engineer.
- Perform all housekeeping duties in the Ammonia Engine Room necessary to maintain all work areas at a level of sanitation consistent with Nestlé standards
- Follow safety guidelines for equipment usage and operational procedures, i.e. tank entry/confined space, lock-out/tag-out, WOMA high pressure unit, and handling of hazardous materials
- Perform all lubrication of equipment in the Ammonia Engine Room
- Perform general facilities maintenance, inspections, and indoor/outdoor grounds work
- Train or assist with the training of other personnel as required
- Perform or assist with repairs to refrigeration related equipment in routine & breakdown situations
- Perform all other duties as required or directed by supervision/management
