Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Ammonia Technician for our cold storage facility in Miami, Florida. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and ensuring the efficient operation of our ammonia refrigeration systems. This is a critical role in ensuring optimal temperature control for our products and a safe environment for our tenants.
Key Responsibilities:
Refrigeration System Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and associated piping and controls.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose system issues, ensuring that all refrigeration units are operating efficiently.
- Replace parts, calibrate equipment, and make necessary adjustments to ensure smooth system operations.
System Monitoring:
- Monitor refrigeration system performance through computerized controls and on-site inspections, ensuring proper operation and temperatures.
- Document temperature readings, pressure levels, and overall system health daily.
- Respond to any system alarms, and perform emergency repairs or adjustments as necessary.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure that all refrigeration systems are operated safely in compliance with federal, state, and local safety standards, including OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of ammonia systems to detect leaks, malfunctioning parts, and wear-and-tear.
- Follow all safety protocols for handling ammonia and personal protective equipment (PPE) use.
- Recommend and implement improvements or upgrades to the refrigeration system for efficiency and reliability.
- Act as a first responder for any ammonia leaks or refrigeration system failures, ensuring the safety of the facility and employees.
Recordkeeping:
- Maintain detailed logs of all maintenance, repairs, and system performance data.
- Assist with inventory control for parts and supplies needed for refrigeration system maintenance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial maintenance required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems in an industrial or cold storage environment.
- Strong knowledge of ammonia-based refrigeration systems and related safety protocols.
- Proficiency with computerized control systems used for monitoring refrigeration units.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
- Willingness to work in a cold storage environment, including in low-temperature settings for extended periods.
- Ability to respond to emergencies outside of normal work hours as required.
Working Conditions:
- Majority of work performed in a cold storage environment (temperatures as low as -10°F).
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. and climbing ladders to access equipment.
- Wearing protective gear, including respirators, when handling hazardous chemicals.
