JOB DESCRIPTION
A General Manager, or GM, is responsible for running day-to-day operations at Etico Drywall and guiding general business strategy. Their duties include overseeing hiring and scheduling staff, tracking cash flow, and setting financial goals and budgets for their team.

Duties & Responsibilities
General Managers assist first-line managers to achieve their goals and ensures that all teams within a unit are functioning well. The specific duties and the scope of work includes, but not limited to:
- Developing key performance goals and managing the performance of staff
- Creating and implementing strategies for business growth
- Assists in hiring new staff within a department or business unit
- Ensuring that departments or units deliver quality offerings to clients
- Working closely with account managers and other senior staff to retain clients
- Developing new solutions to meet client needs
- Improving internal processes for better productivity
- Overseeing large projects and interpreting performance reports
- Managing the budget and monitoring the financial health of a location or business unit
- Oversee day-to-day operations, assigning weekly performance goals and assuring their completion, while accomplishing your own goals
- Recruit, onboard, and train high-performing employees to achieve sales, profitability, market share, and business plan objectives
- Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished on time
- Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans
- Delegate responsibilities to the best employees to perform them while enforcing all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, training programs, and cultural values
- Resolve internal staff conflicts efficiently and to the mutual benefit of those involved
Risk Management
- Work with all departments to establish processes and procedures for plan administration, project folders, project close-out, scanning and cataloging of specific contract documents need for possible future litigation
- Work with Superintendents in developing processes and procedures to maintain appropriate documentation of construction and field activities
- Monitor Field and Office activities and conditions, and review with our Safety Coordinator, to verify compliance with the Safety Program
- Work with A/P in monitoring Subcontractor compliance with providing and maintaining insurance certs
Financial
- Inventory Control
- Review Income Statements monthly and look for trends in SGA, Directs, and Indirect Costs and their impact on current and future work.
- Oversee WIP and Projections
General
- Project any substantial capital expenditures needed to maintain existing volumes and/or future expansion (trucks, equipment, computers, software, etc.)
- Resource person to assist any department I problem solving, conflict resolution, and training.
- Work closely with estimating, field management, accounting, purchasing, sales, and our customers to ensure best business practices are being utilized.
- Fin I approval for estimating documentation
- Monitor processes and procedures with field and department heads to ensure the accurate and timely flow of information.
- Review any requests for employee "change of status" and or wage increases/decreases
- Attend Customer, Subcontractor, Vendor meetings to represent our position on issues and/or to be the face of the company.
- Negotiate "win-win" solutions based on best business practices
- Work with the President to set direction and strategy
- Implement corporate strategies

Tasks & Functions
Field
- Work with the President, Human Resource and Superintendents to project and maintain an adequate work force for current and future work
- Set up office-to-field handoffs
- Monitor equipment needs to ensure that we have what is needed to perform current and future work
- Monitor the field's compliance with Safety Program
- Review findings from job cost reports with Field management for opportunities for improvement and/or praise
- Work with Superintendents in developing processes and procedures to maintain appropriate documentation of construction and field activities
- Monitor completion of projects to make sure they are invoiced In a timely manner
- Conduct regular onsite visits to identify problem areas and develop action plans
- Final approval for direct costs
- Subcontractor contracts
Accounts Payable
- Review and approve vendor and supplier billings
- Assist in resolving payables issues with vendors and suppliers
Estimating
- Review 'job costs: budgets vs actuals
- Review findings from job cost reports with estimators for opportunities for improvement and/or praise
- Review labor costs with estimators on the various types of products to help ensure accurate labor budgets
- Work with vendors and suppliers to negotiate and maintain competitive pricing
- Keep estimating team informed of current and future SGA and Payroll Burdens for bidding purposes
- Set Margins, SGA, and Burdens in line with company guidelines
- Assist and educate estimators on how to bid new or unique projects that are out of the "norm"
- Review Customer contracts and scopes of work with estimators to negotiate language, exclusions, inclusions
- Communicate with our Customers Purchasing Managers on bid specific issues, disputes, special pricing and pass on to estimating team.
- Participate in Office to Field Handoff meetings when able
Accounts Receivable
- Be familiar with Pre-lien and Mechanics Lien process and company policy on what jobs get Pre- liens
- Review billings and unpaid invoices monthly, more if needed.
- Communicate with Customers on over 30 days past due billings.
- Determine with the President when to issue a "stop" notice to Customers and pull of crews if payments not received
- Work with A/R and Superintendents to collect back-up needed for meetings with Customers to negotiate on unpaid items and back-charges
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and yearly revenue and budget projections
Purchasing
- Stay in regular communication with the President regarding material and vendor pricing
- Maintain up to date quotes for materials, subcontractors, equipment costs with A/P
- Monitor Warehouse inventory and orders as needed
- Monitor Equipment/Truck costs and relate any changes to Estimating team for bidding purposes
- Assist the President in negotiation of miscellaneous material cost
Customer Service
- Work with Superintendents to resolve disputes with Customers on Warranty/Non-warranty service requests
- Monitor unpaid service work orders with A/R to determine if we continue to perform Non-warranty service requests without being paid for them
- Use all resources available to help resolve disputes with Customers: i.e. Registrar of Contractor Standards and building codes, etc.
Sales & Marketing
- Work with the President and the Customers in negotiating new and existing work
- Review bid tracking and bid board and work with the President in setting bid priorities for estimating
- Delegate work to Estimators based on specific Estimators' skill sets
- Review new Customer accounts and their background/history to assist in setting margins based on rating the following:
o Financial Strength
o Anticipated production volumes
o Years in business
o Reputation (slow pay, no pay, quick pay, etc.)
