Position Summary:
- The Plumbing Service Manager is responsible for helping to maximize the productivity, technical ability, throughput, profitability, quality assurance, reputation and safety of Blue Sky’s plumbing service and installation operations
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Your initial duties and responsibilities as Plumbing Service Manager shall include, without limitation:
- Act as Lead Plumbing Service Manager
- Provide technical, supervisory, and customer service support to all field personnel as required.
- Monitor and assist in the development of Apprentices.
- Establish yourself as the “go-to” technical resource for all field personnel and maintain technical proficiency with all equipment brands and types. The Company will assist you in this effort by helping you to maintain proficiency through training opportunities.
- Ensure customer satisfaction at all times. Assist in resolving customer problems and follow up on feedback.
- Analyze and make a positive impact on operations as they relate to the customers’ experiences.
- Analyze our services and make specific recommendations on how they can be improved.
- Help monitor and improve the efficiency of departments.
- Provide support by phone and in person as needed to ensure our field staff, Dispatch and projects are properly supported.
- Provide technical training, mentoring, (including ride-alongs), supervision and evaluation of Blue Sky’s plumbing service technicians, installers, and apprentices.
- Maintain a high degree of technical acuity in the Plumbing fields and associated technologies thereof. Keep and maintain test equipment and procedures sufficient to accomplish technical troubleshooting and other goals in these areas.
- Actively pursue knowledge in and teach the implication of applicable code and sound design requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and provide regular training in the areas of technical and safety topics to the plumbing service and installation staff.
- Customize technical training programs for specific “in-need” individuals, including one-on-one instruction and coaching.
- Assist the Warehouse Manager in the ordering or even the delivery of parts and equipment in times of greater need.
- Promote Safety in all Blue Sky activities.
- Coordinate your safety efforts with the Company Safety Manager.
- Mentor Blue Sky field staff in ethics, consistency, commitment, profitability, customer service and technical ability.
- Cultivate and encourage engagement in a healthy company culture.
- Encourage all field personnel to continue education in their specialties, and to become more versatile in order to enrich their careers and benefit the Company. Refer all specific training needs to management so that others may assist in helping find suitable opportunities.
- Act as the liaison between field personnel and management, and between field personnel and Sales.
- Remain observant of field staff for behaviors which may need correction, and of equal import, look for behaviors worthy of praise and recognition.
- Sales, design and management of plumbing projects as an enhancement to the existing Blue Sky sales/management team.
- Analyze and make a positive impact on operations as they relate to Blue Sky’s profitability.
- Assist as required Dispatch or Operations in technician matching and scheduling of jobs and projects.
- Actively participate in plumbing project organization, kick-offs, and deployment of resources to the project site in order to improve all aspects of project performance, outcome, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
- Actively participate in and supervise the lay-out of Blue Sky project teams, and the commencement of work on projects.
- Review new job folders to ensure equipment, materials, permits and other needs which are vital to project success are ordered or arranged to meet the needs of the project and that they are accurate. When shortcomings are found, you should alert the Warehouse Manager, Salesperson or General Manager as needed or make changes on your own to ensure it is corrected.
- Inspect final job status and ensure that all aspects of the project have been satisfactorily completed.
- Keep a record of your activities and use these journal entries to document and help guide you towards suggesting necessary changes and improvements to Blue Sky’s operations.
- Cooperate with and assist Blue Sky’s management team.
- Participate in Company or department meetings, giving feedback, suggestion and guidance where appropriate.
- Assist in forecasting staffing needs and help plan for continued growth. Take an active role at times in recruiting and hiring the support team that you believe will help you and management take Blue Sky into a sound, more successful and profitable future.
- During times of peak volume, absenteeism or other great need you will be called upon to provide spill-over assistance for the plumbing on-call tech, dispatcher or Project Coordinator.
- Assist in the performance of Appraisal Reviews where needed.
- Assist with updates and improvements to the up-front pricing guide.
- Assist in reviewing service invoices; help ensure that pricing is consistent, repair or replacement options are fair and balanced, terminology used is appropriate, and sufficient value is built and then provide feedback to field staff.
- Provide occasional backup for other key members of the Blue Sky team.
- Other additional duties as assigned.

- Must understand English in a competent manner in order to clearly communicate questions, instructions or safety concerns to coworkers, supervisor, and those they supervise.
- This employee must be confident in his/her abilities, in themselves and the Company. They must understand and support the Company Mission Statement and their interactions with all Blue Sky staff must reflect this belief. They must become familiar with a wide range of systems and maintain a very high degree of service and installation technical abilities. They must be able to speak to Company product lines and services with a high degree of accuracy. They must be able to effectively lead their charges towards work that meets the needs of and that is in the best interest of customers, with the end goal of producing a profitable result for the Company. This employee must have a pleasant, professional demeanor and be able to demonstrate empathy for both customers and co-workers alike. They must show the capability of applying sound problem-solving skills.
Education/Certification Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED certificate or evidence of experience in a construction-oriented business may substitute on a year-to-year basis for educational requirements.
- Ability to pass drug screening.
- Ability to pass background check
- A valid driver’s license and clean MVR
- The Plumbing Service Manager must be a self-starter, possess excellent communication skills and be customer-focused at all times. This employee must be willing to learn and practice new concepts in an industry that is ever-changing as well as continuing to educate himself apart from that knowledge gained merely through his day to day work. This employee must be a supporter of Company goals, policies, pricing and other directives deemed necessary by the General Manager. This employee must be capable of applying sound, fair judgment in all levels of decision-making and situations he encounters
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described herein are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job.
- The position regularly requires sitting, walking, bending for extended periods of time and lifting weights up to 75 pounds.
- The employee must have a full range of body movement including free use of hands, knees, back, feet, neck, arms, shoulders, and finger dexterity and must be capable of bending, reaching, crawling, climbing and crouching.
- The employee should be free of the fear of closed spaces or fear of heights and ladders or of an inordinate fear of insects. The position often requires working atop ladders, man lifts or roof structures for extended periods.
- The position will require working indoors and outdoors in various climate conditions ranging from very cold with rain or snow to very hot and humid. The employee must be able to demonstrate adaptability to these conditions.
- The position requires working in and around high voltage electricity. The employee must be able to demonstrate safe working procedures as it applies to high voltage.
- The position requires exposure to noise levels in the work environment that are usually moderate but may at times be very loud.
- The position at times involves safe or protected exposure to various cleaning compounds, dust, sand, soils, pollen, sawdust, moldy and mildewed surfaces, refrigerants, fiberglass and other insulations, drywall and plaster dust, air conditioning coil cleaners, glues, cements, primers and solvents, asbestos, Portland cement, radon, smoke, soot, methane gas, natural and LP gas, phosgene gas, drain treatments, carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and other flue gases and other irritants and hazards too numerous to list herein.
