Licensed Journeyman Electrician Job Summary
After completing the training period, the Lead Installer, Electrician, will be working alongside other team members to install commercial refrigeration units nationwide and will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment for commercial refrigeration systems. This position does have supervisory responsibilities.
Journeyman Electrician Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Unloads and installs commercial refrigeration units in accordance with detailed installation specifications, instructions, floor plans, diagrams, and schematics.
- Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, connections, installs electrical wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices per code.
- Performs effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repairs or replaces damaged units.
- Tests electrical systems to ensure proper installation and operation.
- Operates forklifts and other job site equipment to move and position equipment and materials.
- Completes on-site safety assessments and complies with all safety standards and regulations of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Submits project completion documents upon project completion using required technology and systems: phones, tablets, computers, etc.
- Ensures company vehicle is clean and properly taken care of, notifying supervisor of any maintenance and/or mechanical issues, as needed.
- Must own and maintain basic Electrician hand tools.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
Journeyman Electrician Supervisory Responsibilities
- Designated as team lead in a team of 2-3 employees and is responsible for ensuring jobs are completed within specified timeframes and quality standards.
- Ensures that employees comply with applicable safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Communicates company performance expectations to the team and gives regular performance updates to Program Managers; assists in developing and administering corrective measures as needed.
- Communicates with onsite customer representatives, such as store managers and store personnel, to ensure installs are done correctly and in a professional manner.
- Responsible for purchase orders and material management.
- Delivers job-specific training in accordance with the company training program guidelines.
Journeyman Electrician Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring.
- Ability to use computers, phones, and/or tablets to take picture and complete required job assignment documentation.
- Attention to detail and a desire to see the job done right the first time.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge and application of electrical codes, materials, and safety standards
- Ability to diagnose, service, troubleshoot, repair, and install commercial equipment including, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, case coolers, case freezers, refrigerant controls, and compressors.
- Proficient in the use of hand and electrical tools, as well as service manuals and all diagnostic equipment related to the electrician trade.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety procedures, regulations, and guidelines
Electrician Education and Experience
- Journeyman’s license and commercial electrical experience or a minimum of 10 years of electrical experience required.
- A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience required.
- Experience operating a forklift and scissor lift strongly preferred. Ability to be trained and certified within 90 days required.
- Experience operating non-DOT work vehicles strongly preferred, up to and including a 26-foot box truck,
- Valid state driver's license required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to discern color to identify color-coded wiring.
- Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds and maneuver heavy equipment using specialized equipment.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel to use specialized electrical tools, operate equipment, and install wires and cable through conduit.
Work Environment & Working Conditions
- Exposure to electrical and construction site hazards.
- Ability to work in changing environments and must be able to work and travel nationwide for 3-4 week increments while completing projects and work assignments. Employees will be home for approximately a week between assignments, which may vary based on install needs.
- Must be able to travel for long distances in planes and/or work vehicles.
- Working hours vary based on project needs (weekends and holidays, extended shifts/12-hour days, etc.)
