Job Summary
Performs a variety of skilled difficult or complex maintenance tasks in field and ground maintenance; asphalt/paving repair and marking; climate control operation; parking meter repair, bench repair, and collection; traffic signs and marking; water system preventative maintenance and repair; and water meter testing and repair.
Job Description
Essential Functions
1 Provides skilled maintenance tasks for the repair and overall care of the wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations for the Dallas Water Utility; oversees lower level employees and ensures that all maintenance is completed in a timely and efficient manner while adhering to safety compliance standards and department protocols and procedures.
2 Organizes, prepares, and issues daily work assignments for crew members and ensures all work procedures are followed safely and work is completed daily to respond to maintenance requests; monitors maintenance operations to ensure quality and effectiveness.
3 Drives around the City evaluating and checking wastewater plant maintenance work being performed; provides senior level expertise to solve problems and address issues and challenging plant maintenance situations.
4 Inspects, reviews, and evaluates plant facility equipment, empties trash, and fixes doors; makes adjustments and performs repairs on water treatment machinery, chemical levels, computerized pumping stations, and other related equipment to ensure a constant water supply, quality of water, and effectively treated effluent.
5 Gathers, compiles, prepares, and drafts daily paperwork; produces various reports on water and wastewater systems, daily maintenance activity and individual work orders or requests.
6 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of Water and Wastewater systems and general equipment and meters.
2 Knowledge, use, and care of hand and power tools.
3 Knowledge of water and wastewater mains and facilities.
4 Ability to read and work with building blueprints and electrical schematics.
5 Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions and read charts and maintain written records.
6 Ability to train and instruct other workers.
7 Ability to perform math calculations.
8 Ability to perform a variety of manual labor for extended periods.
9 Ability to lift and work with heavy equipment.
10 Ability to maintain record keeping or work log system.
11 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
12 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of general mechanical experience in any of the following areas:
- Utility Construction/Maintenance
- Meter Repair/Reading
- Building/Ground Maintenance
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and/ or overtime.
Subject to twenty-four seven (24/7) emergency call out.
Subject to working in inclement weather conditions.
Salary Range
$21.45 - $24.12
