Job Description:
We’re looking for a gritty, scrappy, thoughtfully decisive, and humble individual to lead the charge in building and installing cutting-edge tank and pump systems for automating used cooking oil disposal in restaurants. This is a hands-on, foundational role in a brand-new department where you'll thrive by figuring things out as you go, improving processes, and continuously innovating.
If you're the type of person who loves rolling up your sleeves, learning by doing, and iterating to make systems better, we want you on our team! If you are the type of person who prefers significant structure and or you have ever attributed poor performance to not being trained properly, this is probably not a good fit for you.
You’ll need to have experience with installing threaded black iron piping, PVC piping, and basic electrical work such as splicing wires and connecting pumps to relays. You need to have comfort and familiarity with troubleshooting and addressing clogged pipes. You also need to have an understanding of pumps and be comfortable rebuilding them. This is not a job for someone looking to follow a manual—it's for someone who gets satisfaction from building, troubleshooting, and refining systems, all while staying curious and proactive.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Installation:
- Layout, source parts for, and install enclosed tank and pump systems tailored to each specific restaurant-customer.
- Ensure installations are user friendly for both the restaurant and for Greasecycle's vac truck drivers who empty the tanks.
- System Improvement:
- Consider the successful installs vs the ones that call in because their pipes are clogged, think about and improve on the successful installations.
- Test and refine prototypes to create durable, high-performing solutions.
- Collaborate with various tubing suppliers and pump manufacturers to constantly push towards more affordable and yet more reliable systems.
- Troubleshooting & On-Call Support:
- Provide prompt support to restaurants when systems malfunction.
- Diagnose issues quickly, perform repairs, and minimize downtime.
- Collaboration & Learning:
- Work closely with the leadership team to document learnings and create scalable processes.
- Communicate feedback from the field to improve future designs and installations.
Who You Are:
- A Builder: You take pride in creating something tangible and high-quality with your hands.
- A Problem Solver: Challenges energize you, and you enjoy finding creative, practical solutions.
- Humble & Hungry: You're not afraid to ask questions, admit what you don’t know, and learn on the fly.
- Flexible: You thrive in unstructured environments and adapt quickly to change.
- Natural-Born Engineer: You curiously approach every task with an eye towards improving and innovating.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong familiarity with black iron piping and PVC piping.
- Basic electrical knowledge, including splicing wires and connecting pumps to relays.
- Familiarity with electrical motors and pumps.
- Mechanical aptitude and a deep appreciation for well-built systems.
- Previous hands-on experience in construction, plumbing, or a related field is a must.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose mechanical/electrical issues.
- You must have a history of performing at an extremely high level of owning a project from end to end.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience in small business startups or creating processes from scratch.
- Prior work in the food service, waste management, or automation industries.
- Knowledge of pump systems and fluid dynamics.
What You'll Get:
- The opportunity to build a department from the ground up and leave your mark on a growing company.
- A chance to learn, iterate, and innovate in a hands-on environment.
- Satisfaction from seeing the immediate impact of your work on our customers' operations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working in commercial kitchens and mechanical environments.
If you're ready to get your hands dirty, solve real-world problems, and grow alongside a team of like-minded builders, we want to hear from you.
