Facilities Maintenance Worker Martin County General Services Pay: $17.10/hr. + benefit options and PTO Full time Hours M-F {7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.}

SUMMARY
Under routine supervision, performs experienced service maintenance work in the routine maintenance and repair of painting, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work connected with maintenance of county-owned facilities. Works under the direction of the assigned supervisor. Employees may assist skilled crafts and trades workers. Work differs from that performed by one of the County's skilled crafts and trades workers in that it is not exclusively in one crafts or trades area and it is not at the skilled level.
This position will be subject to a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security clearance due to its access to the various criminal justice system operations.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES

- Performs specific maintenance and repair work including carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical (limited to changing light bulbs), mechanical, irrigation, plumbing (limited to plunging toilets) and repair work on air conditioning and heating units (limited to changing filters).
- Performs various basic building remodeling tasks, such as assisting in repairing building structures, repairing holes in concrete walkways and office areas, painting interior/exterior surfaces, installing/repairing fences, or installing hurricane shutters.
- Performs various basic electrical tasks, such as replacing bulbs/batteries, or recycling lamps/bulbs.
- Performs various basic plumbing tasks, such as clearing water lines and drains, unclogging sink drains and toilets.
- Performs various basic painting tasks, such as preparing surfaces for painting, pressure washing surfaces, repairing painted surfaces, removing graffiti, and moving/rearranging furniture for painting projects.
- Rotates to perform work in different facilities for exposure to all of Martin County properties, which may include Constitutional offices, Judicial Courthouse, Jailhouse and any other MCBOCC property.
- Assists tradesmen with repair and maintenance as needed.
- Cleans work area after completion of job.
- Sets up ladders, scaffolding, barricades, sheeting and bracing as required.
- Detects and reports unsafe or undesirable conditions to supervisor.
- Work with outside contractors and vendors to ensure proper service as needed.
- Move and install equipment/furniture as needed.
- Assists with special events including set up of chairs/tables and breakdown of same.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions relating to maintenance operations.
- Accurate completion of work orders and materials used.
- Performs any duties within the scope of capabilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Performs work related to this job description as required.

- Knowledge of standards and practices of the building maintenance trade.
- Knowledge of materials, tools and practices necessary to perform work.
- Skills as a craftsmen helper in a variety of building trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
- Ability to perform manual labor with and without hand tools.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions relating to maintenance operations.
- Ability to work with fellow employees and meet productivity standards.
- Ability to learn sufficient computer skills to carry out energy management functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and two (2) years building maintenance or building trades helper experience of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting, masonry, or other skilled trades.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.

Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
