Apprentice position in which individuals may advance to a Journeyman Electrician Level position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship skill training program.
- The apprenticeship for Substation Performance consists of six, 6-month training steps.
- Must progress from one apprenticeship period to the next by successfully completing all requirements of the prescribed six (6) training steps including written, oral and demonstration skill tests learned through on the job and classroom training
- Assist in construction, maintenance, relocation, diagnosis of problems and repair of primary and secondary electrical substation facilities in a safe, efficient, and focused manner
- Work as directed to assist in the restoration of electrical service
- Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronics or Electrical Technology, or 60 credit hours of formal accredited training in electrical, electronics, engineering, or related technical discipline
- Experience in industry related work, commercial, and/or military experience may offset education.
- Must successfully complete all written and/or oral job tests, including a pre-employment aptitude test
- Must have knowledge of basic electrical principles
- Able to remain focused and follow procedures while working in close proximity to energized primary and secondary voltage equipment with minimal supervision
- Ability to use a personal computer
- Ability to use and care for hand tools and equipment
- Ability to use test instruments such as ammeters, voltmeters, phase angle meters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, D.B. meters, wave form analyzers, capacitance and resistance bridges, transformer turns ratio test sets and many others
- Able to interpret blueprints, work orders, manuals, and other technical material related to the performance of the job
- Able to operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies
- Ability to respond to customers with respect, demonstrated knowledge and in a courteous manner
- Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses ad do so timely.
- Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company's values and business practices and do both consistently
- Must pass a Company medical evaluation and distinguish colors, have depth perception, and have hearing correctable to hear instructions or warnings from a person stationed on/around construction equipment
- Able to endure strenuous physical exertion and have the dexterity to utilize hand and power tools
- Able to work in outdoor environment while exposed to heat, cold, rain, humidity, as well as exposure to other normal air quality issues associated with industrial areas
- Able to wear industrial respirators, as necessary
- Able to lift, push, pull and lower loads manually and using blocks and rope
- Able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and kneel for long periods of time
- Able to reach and work overhead for long periods of time
- Able to climb steel structures and work in aerial devices at heights of 60 ft
- Body weight must not exceed 310 lbs based on the use of weight-restricted equipment necessary to perform tasks
- Required to remain in the Greater Houston area during emergency events
- Must maintain prompt attendance and be available for extended shifts (7 days per week and 24 hours per day)
- Must tolerate working in extreme temperatures and environments, including heat, cold, wind, rain, etc
- May be exposed to various poisonous plants, insects, animals such as rodents and snakes
- Employee will be exposed to high voltages of energized power lines and conductors
