This position assists with the reliable repair, maintenance, and fabrication of equipment and/or components in support of Electric and Gas Utility infrastructure. Shops Apprentices, Journeyman, and Head Electricians provide a supporting role to the core areas within CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric. Electricians will comply with all safety rules and policies while performing assigned tasks. Supervisor and Head Electricians will supervise and direct assignments to the Electrician and Apprentice Electrician with respect to Company policies and procedures, as well as job specifications and regulatory standards. Electricians have the opportunity to apply for a Head Journeyman Electrician Level position as those positions become open. Apprentice Electricians have the opportunity to advance to an Electrician level position after successful completion of the Shop Services Apprentice Training.
- Work as directed to troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct electrical and/or electronic controlled equipment troubles, perform skilled electrical-mechanical repair work on plant equipment, outlets, and panels. Assist to troubleshoot and repair SCADA equipment utilized in the Electric utility industry.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain electrical and/or electro-mechanical operating and control systems, equipment, and fixtures, including instrumentation
- Assist with inspection, repair, and/or installation of equipment such as generators, transformers, breakers, switchgear, motors, and auxiliary electrical equipment, freeze protection, cabling, and power feeds.
- Follow safety practices for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public in accordance with the company safety manual.
- Perform metal fabrication and/or welding construction of specialized equipment and/or components used in the electric and gas utility industry.
- Understand and implement personal and company safety measures by wearing specialized goggles, helmets, and gloves.
- Requires the ability review blueprints, drawings and other specification papers before starting work on a fabrication process and during the steps to ensure accurate completion.
- Calibrations of electrical or electronic equipment and instruments to collect and analyze data for reporting.
- Repair, test, and troubleshoot electronic, analog, and digital equipment like oscilloscopes, power supplies, and microprocessors.
- Operation of test equipment such as voltmeters, meggers, amp meters, and high potential test/repair equipment.
- Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronics, Electrical, or related discipline
Minimum 3 years direct exposure to electric maintenance, electronic communications, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and/or preventive maintenance work.
