DEPARTMENT: COMMUNICATIONS AND RELAY
DUTIES: Under general directive supervision of communication and relay manager, foreman,
or working foreman.
Day to Day
- Directs apprentices and semi-skilled workers in performing a variety of duties in the installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of Companywide electronic systems, telemetering devices, radios, and related equipment.
- Services communications equipment as a regular program of preventative maintenance; makes repairs as necessary to return inoperative or defective equipment to satisfactory operating conditions; makes performance evaluation, changes circuit components, and replaces units.
- Assists other personnel in making field tests and installing wiring and controls; tests and calibrates equipment; assembles data and plots curves as required.
- Prepares sketches, drawings, and specifications where needed for construction of special parts that may normally be fabricated in the shop.
- Computes ratings for component parts in specific circuit applications by using accepted procedures and standard formulas.
- Uses and maintains all standard test equipment such as circuit analyzers, oscilloscope, recording oscillographs, signal generators, frequency meters, vacuum tube voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other test equipment.
- Diagnoses trouble and must be skilled in procedural methods of dismantling, reconstructing, and repairing electronic and related communications equipment.
- Prepares records of maintenance and repairs and periodically submits reports to supervisor for permanent records; files F.C.C. reports in compliance with federal requirements.
- Instructs personnel in the safe and proper way to perform their duties and in the use of tools and equipment; provides safety training instructions and is responsible for the general safety of personnel and in administering first aid to injured persons when necessary; may work in areas requiring caution and use of safety devices and safety procedures; conforms with all safety policies and work standards established by the Company; complies with apprentice requirements in the training of apprentices.
Performs and directs work on microwave or radio towers.
Performs other related and assigned duties.
