LOCOMOTIVE (RAILROAD) ELECTRICIAN
Job Functions: LOCOMOTIVE (RAILROAD) ELECTRICIAN
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain high and low voltage wiring on diesel electric locomotive
- Conduct inspections for electrical components.
- Install contactors, resistors, wiring, and conduit.
- Analyze, test, and repair electrical circuits.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical malfunctions, assess issues, and determine corrective action for equipment in locomotive or diesel engine components which includes both high and low voltage equipment.
- Perform maintenance on electrical components in the locomotive cab or diesel electrical compartments.
- Safely set up, operate, and adjust tools and equipment using blueprints, schematics, and location circuit plans.
- Handle, store, and dispose of waste materials in compliance with Waste Streams Management Standard Operating Procedure.
Duties and Responsibilities: LOCOMOTIVE (RAILROAD) ELECTRICIAN
- Ability to lift to 100 lbs. with or without assistance.
- Regular standing, walking, grasping, stooping, bending, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.
- Regular ascending/descending stairs, ladders. Enter/exit locomotives, rail cars/well cars. Work on a ladders and scaffoldings with use of hand tools. Carry or hold parts.
- Ability to perform work on uneven surfaces, elevated surfaces, and from various heights, including making inspections and repairs on top of locomotives and rail cars/well cars.
- Ability to perform work in conditions that include loud noises, confined spaces, various temperatures (hot and cold environments), fumes, dust, and on and around heavy moving machinery.
- Ability to crawl and perform work in tight spaces with use of hand tools and carrying or holding parts.
- Wear personal protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses and steel toe boots.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment such as hand tools, measuring instruments, overhead crane, and forklift.
- Ability to use arms and hands to perform activities involving carrying, holding, grasping, twisting/turning, and pushing/pulling and reaching above shoulder level.
Requirements: LOCOMOTIVE (RAILROAD) ELECTRICIAN
- Prefer High School Education or GED
- Mechanical aptitude
- Read precision instruments and gauges
- Capable use of hand and power tools, including pneumatic tools
- Work around and operate overhead cranes and mobile equipment
- Work from heights over 6”
- Work on varied surfaces (concrete floors, gravel, rail car floors)
- Constant standing, walking
- Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching, climbing ladders
- Frequent work below waist level and above shoulder level
- Confined space work
- High physical demand working environment:
- Carrying up to 100 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications: LOCOMOTIVE (RAILROAD) ELECTRICIAN
- Electrical AC/DC knowledge, and thorough knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) O.E.M. maintenance instructions and procedures and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules. Diesel mechanical knowledge preferred.
- Able to read and understand safety and environmental rules, technical manuals, work reports, specifications, schematics, and drawings.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.
- Ability to work overtime to support production demands.
