Overview Position Summary The role of the HVAC Startup Technician is to manage and perform startup activities and system performance evaluations on new construction and existing building projects of all types to include documentation of pre-functional activities and the maintenance of action item lists. Position Details The Technician will also be an integral part of the final Commissioning team and will be required to participate in point-to-point system checkout as well as functional system testing activities and resolution of all operational deficiencies identified as part of this process.
Responsibilities Assist Assist the Commissioning project management team with equipment and system startup scheduling. Assist the Commissioning project management team with communicating technical detail to vendors or factory. Assist Test and Balance and manufacturers’ representatives in resolving issues that impact the performance of the systems within our responsibility or scope of work. Assist the Senior level commissioning technicians with commissioning activities as applicable. Management Manage and perform all startup activities on a variety of project types and sizes. Supervise other startup technicians and apprentices as applicable. Mentor Commissioning Group apprentices in the performance of assigned duties. Coordinate with other trades to keep the construction schedule on track. Performance Troubleshoot system problems, provide solutions and manage problem resolution through the Commissioning project management team. Communicate job status with the project management team on a daily basis and report any issues that may impede job progress or schedule. Document Document all pre-functional activities in our paperless Commissioning documentation systems. Maintain a current action item list in our paperless Commissioning documentation systems. Maintain the startup crew manpower loading as needed to maintain the project schedule.
Requirements Education & Experience Minimum 5 years' commercial HVAC mechanical equipment startup or service experience. Experience in the construction industry, preferably with a mechanical contractor, TAB contractor or DDC controls contractor. At least 2 years’ experience managing mechanical related work. Experience in servicing boilers and chillers. Experience commissioning new construction and existing building projects. Technical School degree in HVAC/R or similar. High school diploma or GED. Qualifications CFC certification. MCAA 40-hour foreman training. Employees in this classification must maintain insurability during the term of employment. Valid Georgia driver’s license and clean driving record. Knowledge Must have a working knowledge of major HVAC equipment including large multi-fan air handling units, cooling towers and chillers. Solid reasoning, math, science, and technical skills. Good computer skills. Initiative Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance. Must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others.
