KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Electrical System Installation & Maintenance:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components in public buildings, facilities, and outdoor infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems and perform corrective actions.
- Install, wire, and maintain electrical panels, lighting systems, control systems, and other electrical equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure long-term functionality and safety.
Repair & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults in complex systems, including HVAC systems, lighting, and electrical circuits.
- Respond to emergency electrical repair requests, including outages and system failures, and prioritize repairs as needed.
- Ensure that all electrical repairs are carried out in compliance with safety standards and electrical codes.
Code Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all electrical work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes (NEC) and safety regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in electrical codes, safety protocols, and best practices.
- Follow safe work practices and procedures, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring job sites are secure.
- Conduct regular safety inspections of electrical equipment and systems to identify potential hazards.
- Use diagnostic tools and meters to test electrical systems and identify faults, overloads, or performance issues.
- Prepare reports on system conditions and recommend upgrades or replacements when necessary.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with the Facilities Management team and other departments to coordinate electrical work in various County-owned buildings and facilities.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, and other team members about job requirements, timelines, and issues.
- Respond to work orders and requests for electrical repairs or installations in a timely and efficient manner.
Documentation & Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service logs, maintenance schedules, and materials used.
- Document electrical repairs, inspections, and modifications, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Submit reports on work completed and identify ongoing or future maintenance needs.
Mentoring & Training:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior electricians or apprentices.
- Assist in training new staff on safety protocols, equipment, and best practices for electrical work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently. Regular standing and walking, with tasks that may include climbing, bending, and squatting. May involve working in physically challenging environments or conditions. Good vision, with or without correction, is required to safely and effectively perform job duties, including reading documents, operating equipment, and inspecting work areas for safety and accuracy. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: Duties may require work in both climate-controlled indoor environments and outdoor locations exposed to varying weather conditions. The role may involve exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and mechanical equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn as required. Employees may encounter extreme temperatures, especially when working outdoors or in unconditioned spaces. The position may require working from ladders, scaffolding, or other elevated surfaces. The role may require working outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties as needed.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT & PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE): Employees are required to adhere to all safety protocols and utilize appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) provided to ensure a safe working environment. Specific requirements include:
- Mandatory PPE: Employees must wear designated PPE, which may include safety goggles, gloves, hard hats, hearing protection, and respiratory masks, depending on the tasks performed.
- Safety Training: All employees will receive training on the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE to minimize risks and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Inspection and Maintenance: Employees are responsible for regularly inspecting their PPE for wear and tear, and reporting any damaged equipment to their supervisor for replacement.
- Emergency Equipment: Familiarity with the location and use of emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and eyewash stations, is required.

County employees are considered essential personnel in providing and continuing services to our community during and following a disaster, such as a hurricane, or in other emergency situations.
