Job Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Burner/Boiler Service Technician to join our team in the Chicago area. The ideal candidate will be a union-affiliated professional with expertise in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of burner and boiler systems in commercial and industrial environments. You will be responsible for ensuring that all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair a variety of burner and boiler systems, including hydronic and steam heating systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with burners, boilers, and associated components, including controls and fuel systems.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to maintain system efficiency and safety.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards, including ASME and NFPA codes.
- Utilize diagnostic tools to test and adjust burner and boiler performance for optimal operation.
- Work with both low- and high-pressure systems, as well as natural gas, fuel oil, and alternative fuel sources.
- Collaborate with engineers, facility managers, and other team members to complete projects on time and within scope.
- Maintain detailed records of service, repairs, and inspections.
- Adhere to safety protocols and use required personal protective equipment (PPE) on-site.
Qualifications:
- Union-affiliated (must be a member in good standing with a recognized union).
- Minimum 10 years of experience servicing burner and boiler systems in commercial or industrial settings.
- Solid understanding of burner/boiler operation, controls, and safety protocols.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience using diagnostic tools for system evaluation.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of low-emission burners and energy-efficient systems.
- Experience working with computerized control systems (i.e., building automation systems).
- Welding and piping experience is advantageous.
- Industry certifications such as ASME, National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors, or equivalent.
