POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Wastewater Plant Technician, under the direction of the Plant Manager, oversees the operations and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities. This role involves supervising a team of technicians, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, optimizing plant processes, and troubleshooting equipment issues. The Lead Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the quality of effluent and the overall efficiency of the treatment facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work alongside a team of wastewater technicians to ensure effective daily operations and maintenance tasks.
- Partner with the plant manager to address team member performance and behavioral issues.
- Schedule and assign work duties, ensuring optimal staffing levels for facility operations.
- Monitor and adjust treatment processes to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop action plans collaboratively to resolve identified issues and ensure optimal functionality and safety.
- Collaborate with the team to manage both routine and emergency maintenance for treatment equipment and machinery.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Ensure that all operations adhere to environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Prepare and submit reports for regulatory agencies as required.
- Analyze data from monitoring systems to optimize plant performance and efficiency.
- Generate and present reports on plant operations, maintenance activities, and compliance status.
- Work with the team to develop and implement comprehensive emergency response plans for potential incidents.
- Act as a first responder for plant emergencies, coordinating actions to mitigate impacts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervision of Wastewater Plant Technicians and assigning daily tasks and responsibilities.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- State wastewater treatment operator certification (Class II or higher) or equivelant is preferred
- OSHA safety training is a plus
- First aid/CPR ertification is a plus
- Confined space entry certification is a plus
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; associate degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in wastewater treatment operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong understanding of wastewater treatment processes and technologies
- Proficient in the operation and maintenance of treatment plant equipment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem solving skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and environmental compliance.
