Job Description for Industrial Access Control Technician/Security Technician:
Access Control Techicians must have strong programming skills specifically with Lenel, Genetec, Software House, Milestone and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions. Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for installing programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and related customer training on assigned projects including small to large projects that typically have a higher degree of complexity. Also delivers assigned projects effectively and within budgeted cost and time schedules. Acts as key interface for technical support with the customer and maximizes customer satisfaction. Mentors and coaches less-experienced staff. Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
Duties and responsibilities of an Access Control Technician/Security Technician (including but not limited to):
- Install, program, test, repair, and service a substantial variety of systems and equipment (Card Readers, Maglock, Door Strike, Push to Exit). Employee is key interface for the provision of technical support and training for the customer and as such is accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction. Assignments are broad in nature and may require a high level of ingenuity and proficiency.
- Read complex blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation requirements; Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using advanced test instruments and hand tools.
- Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions. Write non-routine programs of substantial variety and complexity for systems.
- Act as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times, thereby ensuring MMR is the customer’s first choice for service. Take ownership of onsite projects including safety, quality, and performance.
- May provide custom systems integrations, detailed systems upgrade planning and execution, systems audits and consultation, and/or database management and manipulation. May install, configure, and support a variety of network systems and equipment for assigned projects.
- Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
- Perform all work in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations as well as company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Use solid troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.
- May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, and standards as well as suggestions for product improvements. Participate or assist with developing customer presentations or similar new business development activities.
- Execute all the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including, preparation of project deliverables such as submittals/shop drawings/training documentation, programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and on-going technical support, etc.
- Identify potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties, and assist in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
- Work closely with the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager and assist in the overall coordination of specific projects including supervision and oversight of subcontractors and installation work; make recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope, and identify ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
- Using technical knowledge, skills and experience, mentor and train less experienced staff. May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.

Qualifications/Credentials of an Access Control Technician/Security Technician:

- Strong programming skills (Lenel, Genetec, Software House, Milestone, etc.) and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions.
- Must be a self-starter and work well without supervision
- Advanced mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper) and ability to read blueprints and drawings; advanced math skills (for some positions, this may include calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.)
- Frequent visits to jobsites are required. Minimal overnight travel is required. Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Advanced organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficient computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Education and/or experience of an Access Control Technician/Security Technician:
- Associate degree in Electronics strongly preferred
- Relevant trade designation (e.g. Electrician, ACS/low voltage installer) required
- Minimum of five years of previous, relevant Access Control field experience required
Certifications/Licenses:
- Candidate must possess proper forms of identification such as valid Driver’s License.
- Multiple product-specific certifiations desired (Lenel, Genetec, Software House, Milestone, etc.)
