Job Overview
As the Area Line Manager, you will lead and manage a team of professional associates and supervisors within the electric transmission and distribution sector. Your role is crucial in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our operations. You will be accountable for the performance and results of your team, adapting departmental plans to address various resource and operational challenges, and making decisions guided by policies, resources, and the business plan. You will receive moderate guidance from upper management and provide subject matter expertise to associates, colleagues, and customers.
This position specifically oversees the work of a team engaged in bringing individuals into the trades such as Pre-Apprentices and Apprentices, and advanced line trades such as Repair (Eagles,) Reliability Technician, and Special Tester.
We are seeking an individual who brings experience in the electrical industry background including line operations, a solid technical background. Strong interest in the design, implementation of a program and curriculum to attract, hire and train trade apprentices.
Key Responsibilities
Field Staff Management
- Lead a team of transmission and distribution field supervisory staff to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient completion of construction, operation, maintenance, and emergency restoration of the electric transmission and distribution system.
- Provide technical management for the team, ensuring adherence to relevant standards and procedures.
- Identify and resolve operational problems, ensuring procedures and practices are current and effective.
- Promote safety as a priority, ensuring crews follow safe working methods, practices, and procedures.
Labor-Management Relations
- Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Foster a collaborative environment by partnering with local union leadership and Labor Relations to address employee issues and build healthy working relationships.
Plan, Direct, and Control Operations
- Manage line operations functions within the assigned region.
- Develop staffing plans, work plans, and budgets to manage transmission and distribution operations and maintenance activities.
- Provide overall direction to supervisors in implementing work plans and achieving corporate goals.
- Develop and monitor performance metrics, crew productivity, and contractor productivity.
- Participate in regional storm planning and direct restoration activities during outages.
Internal Collaboration
- Ensure consistency among regions and departments by representing the region at meetings affecting line operations.
- Lead efforts to improve quality of construction and work practices to enhance reliability.
- Work cooperatively with other departments to integrate resources and facilities where appropriate.
Customer Relations
- Ensure supervisors are accountable for customer satisfaction and address escalated customer complaints.
- Participate in community activities and support employee participation.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company requirements.
Financial Management
- Monitor and manage expenditures, ensuring financial targets are met and examining areas where budgets vary from plan.
- Assist with defining and operating effective financial controls and decision-making processes.
- Oversee resourcing decisions and planning for the team, partnering with HR for recruitment, evaluation, and selection processes.
Professional Development
- Assess organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning outcomes for the team.
- Guide the creation of development plans, monitor progress, provide coaching and mentoring, and complete annual performance reviews.

Functional Competencies
- Expert knowledge of utility operations, tools, equipment, policies, procedures, crew functions, and duties related to area of specialization.
- Advanced knowledge of vehicle, equipment, and tool functional limits, construction methods, safety standards, and compliance with PUC, OSHA, NEC, and NESC requirements.
- Intermediate knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, federal and state laws, Microsoft Office software, customer information systems, and PGE’s geographic service area.

Compensation Range:
$125,790.00 - $233,610.00
Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
