A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN
As a Licensed Electrician at Anchor Sandblasting and Coatings, you install and repair wiring, electrical and industrial equipment, and fuse boxes aboard ships and in shipyard facilities. To identify hazards, defects, or necessary repairs, you carefully inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components. Accurately reading blueprints, you determine the locations for equipment and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards. Using hand tools, you measure, cut, and install electrical conduits. To ensure safety, you use an ohmmeter to test the continuity of electric circuits.
You also repair and maintain the electrical equipment aboard ships, such as generators, alternators, motors, and intercommunication systems. To ensure that the electric motors are properly driving the pumps, blowers, and refrigerating machinery, you perform routine tests. You strip insulation from wire ends, solder ends to terminals, use a voltmeter and ammeter to test the wiring for short circuits, clean and replace commutator brushes, and remove and replace fuses and lights. You take pride in ensuring that ships are safe and functional through the proper installation and maintenance of critical electrical systems and equipment!
