Position Summary
This is skilled trades work performing preventive maintenance work (scheduled maintenance, inspection) and emergency repairs on building mechanical systems and related equipment such as plumbing and electrical.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Possession of (or the ability to possess within three 3 months of hire) an Orleans Parish 2nd class Stationary Engineer’s
Certificate for steam boilers and at a minimum a 2nd class Stationary Engineer’s Certificate for air conditioning.
As of November 14, 1994, employees must possess the appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).
Availability to serve as sole operator on an assigned shift (evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays) during campus
emergencies and/or staffing shortages.
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of building mechanical and energy management systems.
Skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of building mechanical and energy management systems.
Ability to operate, maintain and repair energy management systems.
Ability to use hand tools and power tools and equipment properly.
Ability to read and clearly understand blueprints.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to carry, erect, climb, and maneuver on ladders and/or scaffolds; work in tight and awkward spaces; work off of
roofs, cat walks, and other elevated areas.
Ability to carry or otherwise move loads of 50 pounds or more (pipe, wire, tool boxes, etc.).
Ability to understand and apply University rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and within extreme temperature ranges.
Visual ability, corrected, to observe people and/or vehicles moving through the work area in order to redirect work or
equipment to avoid injuries to the people or damage to the vehicles.
Ability to communicate information effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Operating Engineer Master in the Preventive Maintenance Shop. There are multiple vacancies.
The starting rate of pay is $21.05 per hour with an additional $1 Longevity Pay, $2 Shift Differential and $3 weekend Pay for hours worked only. Rate of pay may be adjusted dependent upon experience and qualifications of the applicant.
Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular working hours and during holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Performs preventive maintenance tasks on building mechanical equipment and components
- Performs preventive maintenance tasks on pumps, motors, control systems, piping and other equipment
- Operates, monitors and controls system wide output
- Operates building mechanical systems including firing up steam boilers, starting and stopping chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, refrigeration and HVAC equipment
- Perform minor projects as assigned on the entire campus that may include pipefitting, mechanical equipment, electrical circuits and painting
- Takes immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow accident to occur
- Assist other trades with preventive maintenance tasks
