Pay: $29.00-$41.00/hr, depending on experience
Responsibilities:
- System Replacement and Upgrades: Lead the replacement or upgrade of existing HVAC systems in commercial buildings, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations during the retrofit process.
- Evaluation of Existing Systems: Assess current HVAC systems to determine the best approach for retrofitting, including identifying inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
- Coordination with Building Management: Communicate with building owners and managers to schedule work at times that minimize impact on daily business operations, often requiring after-hours or weekend work.
- Integration with Existing Systems: Oversee the integration of new HVAC components with existing building systems, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure retrofits comply with updated safety regulations, building codes, and energy efficiency standards, coordinating with inspectors as needed for certifications.
- Minimizing Downtime: Implement strategies to minimize HVAC system downtime during the retrofit, such as coordinating temporary solutions or phased installations to keep certain areas functional.
- Crew Supervision and Training: Lead and train a team of installers on retrofit-specific challenges, such as working in confined spaces, dealing with older infrastructure, and ensuring proper removal and disposal of old equipment.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of the retrofit process, including any changes to the project scope, unexpected challenges, and solutions implemented.
- Client Communication: Provide building owners or facility managers with clear updates on progress, system operation, and maintenance requirements for the newly retrofitted system.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC installation, with a focus on retrofit projects.
- Experience leading installation teams on retrofit projects, including directing apprentices and junior installers in occupied and potentially restricted environments.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of updated local and national building codes, energy efficiency standards, and retrofitting guidelines.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to working in occupied commercial spaces.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools, work at heights, and safely remove old HVAC systems.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong attention to detail.
Licenses and Certifications:
- EPA certification
- Valid HVAC license or certification (as required by local or state regulations).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Additional certifications such as NATE (North American Technician Excellence) or relevant manufacturer training are a plus.
