UTILITY INFRASTRURE INSPECTOR
DESCRIPTION:
Summary of Position:
Under general supervision, the Planning and Development Supervisor inspects all wet utilities for all construction projects to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the general public by ensuring construction conforms to state, city, and local codes, and that and procedures like testing and materials comply with approved plans and specifications.
1. Reports to: Planning and Development Supervisor and Field Manager
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position
3. Other: Has contact with employees, the public, consultants, contractors, and suppliers
:
1. Inspects water main services, wastewater main services, and street construction by performing field inspections of fire lines, fire hydrants and valves, manholes and cleanouts, storm sewer piping and inlets, reclaimed water main services, trench safety, traffic control, stormwater, right of way permits, street cut permits and testing of wet utilities.
2. Makes field and plan changes; responds to citizen complaints; mediates and coordinates with contractors, other departments, the civil engineer, and construction utilities, right-of-way permits, and street cut permits.
3. Maintains communication with contractors, citizens, engineers, and other departments by utilizing email and the telephone assists in handing out door tags and flyers, and is able to call for line locates, Texas 811.
4. Generates documents daily and weekly; creates specialty reports, timesheets, water usage reports, plan review reports, and parts submittal reports.
5. Reviews plans and specifications, as-builts for accuracy, CAD reviews, submittal parts reviews, conveyance reviews, and easement reviews.
6. Manages quality control by checking for compliance; performs visual inspection for faulty materials; inspects water mains, services, and fire lines and wastewater mains, manholes, mandrels, and reclaimed water mains and services; takes bacteriological samples for the water line; completes a final walk-through and punch list.
7. Ensures coordination by organizing pre-construction meetings, on-site and progress meetings, review plan meetings, and organizing training and informational conferences.
8. Must be able to be ready to come to work if any emergency arises.
Working Conditions:
Be able to work in cold and hot weather or rainy conditions.
Must be able to walk in tall grass areas.
Often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
May work in an enclosed vehicle, such as a truck, van, or office.
Be able to lift heavy loads regularly.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Experience using Microsoft Office
Create PDF forms and reports.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
A minimum one (1) year in the construction field is preferred
Certificates and Licenses Required:
Valid Texas Driver's License or the ability to obtain one before employment.
CDL License, Water Operator C. License or Distribution License
