Journeyman Licensed HVAC Technician

KBR's Defense Systems Engineering business unit is seeking to hire a HVAC Technician to join our Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Operating Unit. CIP provides expertise in the design, installation, and maintenance of Electronic Security Systems (ESS) and Utilities/Control Systems for the DoD, FAA, and Federal Law Enforcement.
Job Summary: As an HVAC Technician you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems in support of the Secure Facility Operations, Maintenance and Security (SFOMS) program located at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Superintendent by providing input to identify key success factors for the HVAC crew and is responsible for the execution of HVAC mechanical services, quality, and cost.
- Inspects and maintains equipment.
- Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as air compressors, generators, motors, and turbines to provide heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning for buildings and industrial processes.
- Reads meters and gages or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. Records data, such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of flue gases, voltage load and generator balance.
- Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to back-up equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.
- Applies skills in operating and maintaining chillers, air compressors and all associated pumps, piping, pressure vessels and cooling towers. Familiarity with automated control and monitoring systems.
- Directs the activities of HVAC mechanics who install, service, and repair environmental-control and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
- Experience working with a team or alone such as an out-of-hours response situation.
- Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Train and mentor junior technicians.
- Ensure quality control and compliance with all installation, service, and repair standards.
- Maintain Quality Control: Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that all installations and repairs meet or exceed the set standards.
- Facilitate Team Communication: Ensure clear and consistent communication within the team and with other project stakeholders to keep everyone informed and aligned on project goals and updates.

Qualifications:
- Journeymen’s HVAC license required (from any state or DC).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of extensive experience as an HVAC technician, with additional supervisory experience.
- Expert knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Attention to Detail: Precision and attention to detail to ensure high-quality service delivery and compliance with safety standards.
- Leadership skills and excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Decision-Making Ability: Strong decision-making skills to resolve issues quickly and effectively under pressure.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions, technologies, and requirements.
Clearance:
- This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. No active clearance is required to start work, but candidate must have the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
This is a Service Contract Act (SCA) position.
