Job Overview:
Under direction performs general plumbing and steam fitting work involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing facilities and systems, high pressure steam pipes and fittings, sewage systems. Works with various machine and hand held tools common to the trade; may prepare work form sketches, plans, and specifications in accord with the plumbing code or accepted trade practices. Is familiar with the nomenclature, use, and installation of reducing pressure relief, surge, check, float gate, globe, thermostatic, unions, sleeves, bushings, reducers, steam traps, strainers, and other fittings and valves. Provides technical advice / assistance to apprentice level plumbers engaged in the maintenance and operation of plumbing systems. Performs other related duties as required. Utilizes skills to perform work as directed by manager or director. Performs work in any of the skilled trades as a mechanic or as an assistant to a skilled tradesman as required. Maintains all building functions on patient floors and patient rooms. Delivers timely and efficient building services to staff, patients and visitors. Remains available for routine and emergency service calls according to Medical Center needs. Works overtime as required. Provides on-call maintenance coverage for the Medical Center for repairs, installations, snow removal, relief mechanic and other emergencies or schedules projects. Ensures that patient care is the number on priority. Responds to work in any work discipline as requested by Engineering supervisors, foreman or director, and performs to the best of his/her ability.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or general education Degree (GED);
- minimum of three years appropriate trade experience. Completion of acceptable apprentice program at an accredited union program, vocational or technical school.
- Must have proper certificates or licenses related to his/her particular skill.
- Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- Must have a New Jersey drivers license
- New Jersey blue seal stationary license or better.
Scheduling Requirements:
Essential Functions:
- Accepts a long-range beeper to be on-call for emergencies as required by department management
- Assigns work form rotating shifts that are on the visi-board in the general shop; as tasks are assigned, indicates by placing a line through the job
- Cooperates with management to resolve problems promptly.
- Ensures that work is assigned and completed in a reasonable time.
- Establishes job priorities.
- Handles telephone calls form rotating engineers to solve problems and provide guidance.
- Maintains fair/equitable schedules and work assignments.
- Monitors adherence to starting times and break times.
- Orders necessary supplies and maintains stock.
- Provides leadership, works with the tools, and sets and example by participating in the workload.
- Schedules emergency repairs requiring overtime.
- Solves problems and makes decisions relating to installation and maintenance of equipment.
- Submits reports, time sheets and completed work orders as requested by supervisor or department policy.
