**Job Title:** Instrument Technician
**Job Summary:**
The Instrument Technician, reporting to the Project Instrument Lead, plays a crucial role in supporting field teams across multiple projects. This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a high level of responsibility. Successful candidates are fast learners, self-motivated, and capable of performing under pressure in various working conditions.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems using various test instruments.
- Operate and maintain electrical power-generating plants and other equipment.
- Plan and execute the layout and wiring of new or remodeled installations.
- Perform maintenance on low voltage systems, including fire alarms and access systems.
- Ensure compliance with building and safety codes; inspect contractor work for quality and compliance.
- Provide cost, time, and material estimates for electrical projects on campus.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring a safe and clean work environment.
- Lead preventative maintenance schedules and generate detailed reports on asset conditions.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical outages and equipment malfunctions.
- Oversee major equipment overhauls and ensure proper functioning through testing.
- Provide direction and leadership to other electricians, ensuring work meets quality standards.
- Maintain records of maintenance and repair activities and prepare reports.
- Respond to after-hours call backs and interpret drawings and specifications.
**Skills Required:**
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, materials, tools, and equipment used in electrical trades.
- Familiarity with state and federal electrical codes, including the National Electric Code.
- Ability to read blueprints, plan layouts, and estimate costs and materials.
- Experience leading small work groups or crews in electrical projects.
- Proficiency in maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment.
- Competence in using manual and computerized record-keeping systems.
- Capable of handling emergency situations effectively and performing arithmetic calculations.
**Education/Training/Certifications:**
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a standard electrician’s apprenticeship program or equivalent journey-level skills.
- 1-2 years of experience as a journey-level electrician, including work coordination.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
