Job Summary
To perform journeyman level skills in the installation, maintenance, remodeling, repair and servicing of plumbing system, and utilities in a mechanisms utility distribution center. Responsible for me prompt performance of assignment plumbing and related duties and mechanism maintenance and repair of utility mains.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, repair and maintain water, air, gas and sewer lines and systems.
- Install plumbing pipes, traps, washbowls, fittings, drains, special laboratory sinks, drain tables and experimental tables.
- Repair, replace and maintain valves, faucets, water heaters, traps, sinks, washbowls, sewers, vents and toilet fixtures.
- Cut and thread pipe and wipe lead joints.
- Connect and maintain hot water units, gas heaters and furnaces and check for safety. Unstop clogged lines.
- Maintain radiators, radiator traps, and thermostatic line traps.
- Perform acetylene and electric welding for construction and maintenance of pipelines.
- Assist with simple estimates of time and materials required for a job.
- Drive a UTA owned vehicle.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma.
- Three (3) years experience.
- Three (3) years of skilled/journeyman level plumbing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Texas Operator’s License required.
- Accuracy in phases of work performed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to use acetylene torches, pipe benders, cutters and threaders, wrenches, blueprints and other tools common to the plumbing trade.
Working Conditions
- Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as dust, dirt, raw sewage and the need to work in confined spaces.
- Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others.
