Job Description Summary
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, perform a variety of skilled plumbing tasks supporting the repair and maintenance of buildings and facilities; to troubleshoot, repair, replace and maintain plumbing fixtures, accessories and equipment; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; assist in performing other skilled duties as assigned.
Job Description
- Install general plumbing systems and repair existing systems; install water piping, fire sprinkling systems and sewer mains and laterals.
- Troubleshoot and repair major plumbing breakdowns such as clogged drains and fixtures; clean out drains and remove obstructions from water systems.
- Repair and replace PVC, copper and galvanized pipes; solder and sweat copper joints and fitting; repair valves, ball cocks and faucets.
- Unplug and re-route water and control lines; service and repair circulating pumps and electrical timers.
- Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures on dishwashers, washing machines, toilets, sinks, drinking fountains and garbage disposals.
- Repair or replace gas lines, gas meters and valves; dig ditches and trenches as necessary; inspect, repair and install backflow prevention devices.
- Inspect, maintain and replace hot water heaters and loop systems; evaluate water levels, pressure and temperature.
- Read and interpret blueprints and sketches; ensure work is completed according to written specifications.
- Operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition materials as required.
- Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for the jobs assigned; requisition materials as required.
- Basic plumbing such as fixing leaking or unstopping toilets and drains.
- Respond to and resolve various emergency calls and routine calls for service.
- Plan, organize and lay out assigned tasks.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Complete quarterly training assignments that is identified in the structured personal developed plan.
- Complete an approved craft self-assessment within 30 days of signature date
Ability To:
- Estimate cost, labor and materials as necessary for replacement and repair of general plumbing.
- Read drawing and work from plans and specifications.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Work independently with little directions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Meet schedules and timelines.
- Use a variety of tools and machines used in the basic trades.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma: GED or experiences in the trades beyond minimum requirements may substitutes for education. Minimum requirement of 4 years pervious experiences is required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED and four (4) years related experience and/ or training, or equivalent.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Possession of a valid GA driver’s license; possession of, or ability to obtain, journeyman’s license.
Environmental Conditions:
Field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, electrical energy, adverse weather conditions; work or inspect in confined spaces, ability to work at heights; use scaffolding and ladders and operate machinery.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate or light lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing; operating motorized equipment and vehicles; near visual acuity to inspect equipment and machinery.
