Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the PT Facilities Plumber Pipefitter will provide licensed plumbing services to the University in accordance with state and local plumbing codes. This includes plumbing systems inspection, maintenance and repair pumps, fixtures, portable water systems, meters, industrials and sanitary waste systems, irrigation and laboratory facilities. The Facilities Plumber Pipefitter will prioritize safety and communication in their work and have working knowledge of all federal and state safety regulations. The Facilities Plumber Pipefitter must be able to interpret and follow building plans and drawings. This is a part-time position working approximately 10 to 20 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform plumbing repair and maintenance on campus systems and infrastructure, general maintenance.
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and appliances.
- Conduct regular inspections and service on equipment requiring routine adjustments or maintenance.
- Troubleshoots plumbing systems and components to identify faulty parts which need replacement or repair
- Operates hand and power tools
- Performs preventative maintenance and installation services or repair in accordance with organizational and national life safety and fire codes.
- Takes necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials and power equipment.
- Uses personal protective equipment as required.
- Ensures proper maintenance and safeguarding of materials and tools against theft or vandalism.
- Completes required documentation of repairs and service information through the campus work order system
- Communicate with management on any hazards or risks that require immediate attention
- Ensure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and parts
- Calibrate equipment to provided specifications
- Troubleshoot problems and make timely repairs.
- Drives utility vehicles to and from work sites.
- Makes periodic building rounds to check all facilities and building functions on the property.
- Must be able to work overtime when necessary.
- Assist all other employees during special events
- Respond to after-hours emergencies, able to work an on-call schedule.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external constituents in a collaborative environment
- Prepare and maintain reports and updates to management and personnel using internal data
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
A high school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 5 years of commercial/industrial plumbing experience is required. Journeyman license is required, Master plumbing license is preferred. Experience in a University setting preferred. Must possess strong knowledge of other building trades and preventative maintenance experience; must have strong skills in organization and communication and possess great customer service. Valid Georgia drivers license and insurable driving record is required.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The Facilities Plumber must have basic knowledge of general maintenance; must be able to objectively troubleshoot problems and assemble, install, repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating systems, water systems and drainage in accordance to specifications and plumbing codes. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work well with supervisors, coworkers, the University community, and the public.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Majority of the tasks associated with this position will be performed indoors at multiple campus locations or buildings. Some duties will require the ability to function with exposure to seasonal weather conditions. May have exposure to potential hazards. Ability to stand, bend stop, kneel, reach lift pull, push, and walk for a minimum of three hours. Also, must possess the ability to lift at least 45 lbs. using safe lifting techniques.
