The Facilities Services Department is responsible for custodial services, grounds and landscaping, maintenance, repair of university vehicles, waste management and recycling, and the operation of the USF Post Office.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the removal, repair, and installation of: concrete slabs, concrete block walls, poured concrete walls, brick walls, brick pavers, tile walls and floors, stone veneers, concrete pavers, handrails, skate deterrents, and outdoor furniture. Can expect to work in all weather and with various materials, and lift and carry heavy objects up to 80 pounds. Proficient in reading and assessing technical drawings. Profound knowledge and familiarity with relevant tools (both modern power tools and traditional hand tools), masonry techniques, and equipment. Proficient mixing cement and mortar. Identify and correct safety issues, general maintenance and campus beautification projects. Responsible for assigning and overseeing the work of Contractors, and Maintenance Techs ensuring all duties assigned are completed according to standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Remove and install concrete slabs, identify and grind trip hazards on concrete slabs, remove and install concrete and brick pavers. Repairing of stone walls, sidewalks, street curbs, and other related structures or surfaces.
Remove and install outdoor furniture and fixtures.
Performs other concrete and masonry related tasks as needed.
Respond to emergency events during business hours, non-business hours, holidays, and university closures.
Performs other duties as required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma and five years of experience and completion of an approved apprenticeship program. A valid Florida Driver's License.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
PREFERRED:
The preferred candidate will have experience working with poured concrete, block work, stucco, brick work, veneers, pavers, and tile.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
The individual needs to be knowledgeable of best practices in the concrete and hardscape industries. A valid Florida Driver's License. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Completion of an approved apprenticeship program.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS:
This position may be required to work in outdoors and be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Essential personnel are generally defined as employees critical to ensure the operations of essential functions of the department. Additionally, on a case by case basis, staff members may be designated as essential by management based on the nature of the emergency and/or the availability of other personnel. Individuals identified as essential personnel, may be expected to be on-site regardless of the employee's normal work schedule. In Services, the Grounds and Custodial staff are determined as essential.
