The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Support Services is seeking a customer service oriented, experienced candidate for our Assistant Director of Maintenance Operations (Maintenance/Construction Manager II) to be a part of the NCDAC team. The position reports to the Director of Maintenance Operations and will provide regional yard management for all routine construction, maintenance, and repair operations. The position will assist the Director with supporting maintenance functions for an Agency that encompasses more than 15M square foot of structures and buildings across North Carolina. Centralized maintenance operations include approximately two hundred staff assigned to Regional Maintenance yards and prison facilities across the system.
The Assistant Director of Maintenance Operations directly supervises Three (3) Reginal Yard Maintenance Yard Managers located across the state (East, Central, West). The position will be responsible for delivering leadership, direction, management of corrective/preventive/predictive maintenance responsibilities, construction projects, and ensuring efficient use of financial and staff resources, ensuring work performed meets State Construction Office inspection guidelines and NC Building Codes; and working collaboratively with Central Engineering on projects.
A successful candidate for this position, shall have a strong background in facility maintenance, and/or have documented journeyman level experience in one or more of the engineering construction trades (general, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and/or electronics); strong experience in the methodologies of facility maintenance and repair; strong decision-making capabilities; excellent team collaboration skills; and have strong problem solving and team building skills.
This position has a duty station of Raleigh, NC and requires the successful candidate to commute daily to the Raleigh, NC office with occasional overnight stays within areas of North Carolina. This position is assigned a duty station located State Owned work vehicle for standard business use and overnight stays when required.

- Demonstrated experience with reading/interpreting construction plans and documents.
- A valid Driver’s License.
Management Preferences:
- NC licensed as a General, Plumbing, HVAC, and/or Electrical contractor.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards, State Construction Office guidelines, North Carolina Building Codes, AND/OR laws and ordinances governing institutional / industrial / commercial construction.
- Ability to use MS Office (Word and Excel) and willingness to learn new software programs.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, architects, engineers, contractors, and State agency managers.

Bachelor’s degree in Facilities or Construction Management or related Engineering field from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in construction or facility maintenance including three (3) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience: or
Associate’s degree in Construction Management, Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) years progressive experience in construction or facility maintenance including three (3) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance and/or repair of buildings and facilities.
