JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
The Commercial HVAC/MEP Estimator will plan, coordinate, supervise and/or prepare full estimates for large, complex work and contracts. This position will also work with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to generate budgets, proposals, hard bids, etc. for commercial, industrial, and institutional HVAC projects. The Estimator will also be responsible for review of all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness. They will perform negotiation of contract scope, buy-out of projects, and write-ups for accounting. This role will develop and implement all department standards and procedures.
- Combination of plan & spec (75%) and design-build (25%) projects
- Candidate should ideally be capable of small-scale design work and problem solving for owners
- HVAC / MEP estimating experience
- Familiarity with estimating software (training available if needed)
- Engineering degree or project management experience is a plus but not required
- Ability to work independently and hit the ground running
- Project Budget Range: Typically, $5K - $2M
- Strong relationships with GCs and owners
- Often selected based on trust and past experience rather than lowest bid
- Goal: Provide accurate estimates to position the company as a preferred HVAC
- partner
- Prefer candidates with mechanical contractor estimating experience
- Assistant PMs may be considered but not ideal
- Field vs. Office Work: 80% office-based, 20% in the field for site visits, walk-throughs, and GC/owner meetings
- Focus on work history, duration in roles, and mechanical industry experience rather
- than HVAC calculations
- Understanding of estimating, project management, and client interactions
- Organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills
- Provides recommendations and participates in reviews of status of pending bids to Senior Management on what projects to bid, strategies, techniques, etc. on a weekly basis.
- Negotiates contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
- Reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attends pre-bid meetings, bid strategy and presentation meetings as required for projects the company has committed to bid.
- Thorough knowledge of company procedures and estimating techniques plus industry
- standards, practices, and processes that impact the bid.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings.
- Ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort.
- Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimum of supervision.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
