Under the supervision of the Manager, and following established guidelines, operates, installs, inspects, repairs and maintains refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and ventilating equipment and controls.
Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Troubleshoots malfunctioning mechanical equipment in an effective, efficient, and timely manner.
- Troubleshoots pneumatic and/or electronic control systems to proper predetermined calibrated set-points.
- Adjusts flow valves on pipelines to regulate specified flow rates to maintain proper discharge temperatures.
- Performs lubrication and other required preventive maintenance tasks as specified on work order management system and/or manufacturers recommendations.
- Winterizes all HVAC equipment per established policies and procedures.
- Maintains all orders adequate inventory of spare parts and/or replacement components to meet needs for normal operation or repair.
- Tests efficiency of various HVAC/refrigeration system to maintain at high degree of performance/calibration.
- Follows approved procedure for safe and proper removal of refrigeration equipment to meet Federal and State requirements.
- Maintains and verifies that all licenses and permits associated with refrigeration equipment are current.
- Maintains documentation as required.
- Response to requests for unscheduled and/or emergency situations to meet the needs of the Department (ie., floods, roof leaks, storm emergencies, etc.).
- Complies with all Hospital Policies.
- Complies with behavioral expectations of the department.
- Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
- Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.
- Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
- Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
- Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent. Vocational/Trade School courses and our equivalent education and experience.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Current valid Massachusetts State Refrigeration License, and current Massachusetts Driver’s license required.
Special Operator’s License must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Operator’s License will include:
Periodic checks of the boiler and sign-off of an active operator’s log
Checks are to take place at least once every 2 hours
A boiler blow down test is to be performed at least once per shift
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Thorough working knowledge of refrigeration cycle and operating controls.
- Thorough working knowledge of HVAC electro-mechanical equipment and controls (pneumatic and electric).
- In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.
Experience
5-7 years related HVAC experience in a healthcare facility.
