Job Summary
General Summary/Overview Statement Under general supervision assists licensed HVAC technicians in the installation, preventive maintenance, testing and repair of refrigeration systems, heating systems, related piping systems and all related equipment. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Assists the licensed HVAC technician in the installation, maintenance, testing and repair of refrigeration systems, heating systems, air conditioning equipment related piping systems and all related equipment. 2. Responds to all emergency situations as appropriate. 3. Reads and interprets blueprints (HVAC drawings) for various information such as pneumatic controls and settings and locations. 4. Prepares material listing as required for work order requests and other routinely assigned tasks. 5. Responsibilities may involve participating in planning activity at department level or assisting in the development of solution to specific problems. 6. Maintains a safe and clean environment in area (s) of Engineering Department responsibility (areas as assigned). 7. Responds to phone calls from all areas of the hospital as assigned by supervisor. 8. Communicates with other employees and management on necessary information regarding piping systems. 9. Installs pre-fabricated sheet metal duct work for HVAC systems. 10. Maintains appropriate records of testing and/or duties. 11. May be required to carry the on call pager. 12. Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
Qualifications 1. Must be able to read, write and perform simple arithmetic calculations at a level generally acquired through completion of high school. Additional training in technical or trade school needed. 2. Knowledge of installation, repair, testing and calibration of HVAC equipment generally acquired through 1-2 years of refrigeration schooling required. Skills and Abilities Required 1. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and specifications. 2. Must be able to operate HVAC tools and equipment safely and efficiently.. 3. Must be able to interact and cooperate with staff throughout the hospital. 4. Must be able to occasionally (less than 15% of the time) exert effort to lift over 30 lbs. Working Conditions May occasionally (less than 20% of the time) get involved in a dirty or hazardous environment in the performance of his/her duties.
