POSITION SUMMARY:
Under supervision of Journeyman or Master Electrician, performs skilled electrical and mechanical work for Public Works systems and equipment. Assists with installations, repairs and maintenance of instrumentation and controls (I&C) systems, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, power generation systems and other supported systems and equipment as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Assists with installation, maintenance and repair of lift stations, water plants and other assigned locations and equipment.
- Assists with maintaining parts and materials inventory.
- Assists with procuring parts, materials and other necessary items.
- Assists with maintaining assigned City equipment, tools and vehicles.
- Assists Electrician with troubleshooting electrical systems to diagnose electrical problems and performs required repairs.
- Assists with reviewing field changes, as-built record drawings and change orders related to assigned locations.
- Assists with maintaining and verifying water and wastewater control systems are working properly.
- Job assignments are planned and scheduled by Electrician.
- Does not handle over 50 volts without Electrician present.
- Performs work in a safe, efficient and professional manner in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements stated in the NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and TCEQ.
- Communicates issues, plans for repairs and after-action reports.
- Communicates progress of electrical projects and provides documentation.
- May be required to respond to after-hours emergency calls.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year of experience with industrial electrical and controls and water distribution or wastewater collection environment preferred.
- Other preferred qualifications:
- Field experience with instrumentation, controls, valves, pumps, motors, power generation systems;
- Experience with water and wastewater processes for lift stations and pump stations;
- Experience with electrical calculations;
- Experience installing electrical conduit, boxes and conductors for electrical equipment
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must Possess strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Must have experience with safe electrical work practices;
- Must have strong mathematical, technical and computer skills with sharp observation to details;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of tools.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Must have or ability to obtain TCEQ Class C Water Operators License within three (3) years of hire;
- Must have or ability to obtain TCEQ Collections II License within three (3) years of hire;
- Valid State of Texas Apprentice Electrician License issued by TDLR (Reciprocal state licenses will also be considered);
- Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
