Job Overview:
Responsible for laying out and drafting design for small to medium projects and/or designated segments of larger complex projects in the plumbing engineering discipline for an assigned functional area. Position requires the application of plumbing concepts, principles, practices, and methods sufficient to perform a broad range of plumbing design activities in a variety of project environments. Guidance may be provided by an experienced Plumbing Engineer with the Designer being required to exercise judgement in interpreting, analyzing, and adapting methods, techniques and procedures to specific cases. Initially completed work is reviewed for technical soundness, appropriateness, and compliance with standard engineering practices.
Duties:
Design:
· Prepares and maintains design drawings, diagrams, charts, plans and permits under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. Performs preliminary and final designs and/or prepares design criteria for assigned projects.
· Coordinates and provides a variety of technical information to clients by contacts with personnel to include inter and intra departmental administrative and engineering personnel, other government agencies, contractors, consultants and the public to exchange information, coordinate work, answer questions and address concerns.
· Uses computerized software programs (AutoCAD & Revit) to prepare drawings to provide technical advice and guidance to assigned work or project. Develops, analyzes, and generates technical reports, correspondence, and official documents.
· Uses engineering and mathematical references and tables, charts, computer equipment, accepted documentation processes required to perform professional engineering studies, calculations, analysis, estimates, etc.
· Conducts field observations of work done by contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
· Performs statistical analysis to ensure compliance within established specifications.
· Identifies problems or opportunities through the collection and analysis of data.
· Interprets and condenses field notes to prepare and/or oversee the preparation of plans and drawings.
· Maintains accurate filing and records system for projects from initiation to project close out.
· Operates various computer aided engineering design, analysis programs and tools.
· Understands, applies and maintains compliance with regulatory and industry standards and requirements (e.g., IPC, UPC, ASSE, ASME, IECC, IBC, etc.).
Project Planning:
· Acts on technical matters in the assigned field of expertise and recommends engineering solutions.
· Creates an effective plan for developing the work product.
· Prioritizes tasks.
· Creates workflow milestones for personal project production.
· Anticipates project constraints and creates alternative plans.
· Monitors project status against the plan and reports on the results.
· Performs contract administration and construction observations for minor projects.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five (5) years engineering work experience (additional engineering work experience will be considered).
- Professional Engineer License in state of Texas.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).
- Attention to detail.
- Able to clearly and effectively communicate with corporate managers, end users, and engineers from other departments.
- Certified Plumbing Designer preferred.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, this position is expected to arrive no later than 8 a.m. and leave after approximately 8 hours of time working. Depending on task needs, overtime may be needed.
