Meter Technician
ABOUT THIS POSITION:
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE: $45,317.00 - 55,514.00
WORK LOCATION: 105-A Upchurch Street, Apex, NC 27502
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm
POSTING CLOSING DATE: December 20, 2024 at 7pm.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
This position performs intermediate duties with some independence and variety of work. The incumbent performs field clerical work in reading electric and water meters, semi-skilled to skilled work in service connects and disconnects and installing and maintaining meters. This position also requires providing significant customer service related to utility usage and meters.
A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS:
- Reads water and electric meters on an assigned route; records meter readings by key punching into handheld computer and/or using a drive by Mobile Collection System.
- Prepares and and maintains records of work activities on the Cityworks computer and mobile applications using New World and other applications as needed.
- Answers public questions about high utility usage and possible leaks and about bills; troubleshoots consumption issues and coordinates with Finance to adjust bills as needed.
- Turns water and electric services on and off, re-reads meters, investigates leaking meters, plumbing fixtures, or other possible reasons for high water usage.
- Uploads meter route and downloads meter readings into office computer; prints reports.
- Works on-call on a limited rotating basis and returns to work to turn water and electricity on when customers pay bills.
- Distributes trim foliage letters or other customer communications to gain access to meters.
- Installs and maintains class 200 and class 320 electric meters and replaces as needed; notifies supervisor for water meter repair needs; cleans water boxes as needed.
- Drives pickup truck to route; performs minor maintenance and repair on vehicles and equipment.
- Programs remote water meters and installs Encoder Receiver Transmitters.
- Performs related tasks as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Position requires a High School Diploma or GED and less than1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
