Job Summary
Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for general repairs and maintenance of building(s) and equipment. Maintenance Mechanics perform preventative and repair maintenance to keep all buildings and equipment in good operating condition. A variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties are performed to carry out the essential functions of this position, and mechanics should be trained and qualified in one or more skilled craft areas.
- Performs general repairs, executing preventative maintenance, and supporting overall maintenance of the residential facilities. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, plumbing tools, and straighthedges. Repairs or replaces defective parts, using hand tools and power tools.
- Performs general repairs such as installing drywall, patching holes, and painting. Installs vinyl tile, repairs ceramic tile floors, replaces carpet tiles and other flooring materials. Communicates with students regarding entry into occupied rooms, as needed.
- Performs basic plumbing repairs and maintenance such as adjusting faucets, replacing shower heads, repairing flush valves, and other minor plumbing repair tasks.
- Performs minor electrical repairs such as replacing light switches, fuses, install breakers, and other basic electrical work.
- Performs manual labor such as moving furniture, stripping floors, and unloading materials.
- Performs preventative maintenance as required such as changing filters and belts, cleaning coils, inspecting equipment, etc.
- Assists with the organization of the key bank for all residential facilities and offices.
- Operates department's sign-making machine. Produces signage for Housing & Residential Experience. Signage includes but is not limited to: room numbers, exit signs, fire safety signs, electrical/mechanical rooms, directional signs, offices, etc.
- Performs lock changes, replaces lock batteries, and maintains records.
- Communicates material needs to supervisor and warehouse clerk regularly. Reports life/safety and other important maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
- Participates in health and safety inspections and communicates problematic units to the Maintenance Manager. Conducts monthly inspections and reports inspection findings to the Maintenance Manager.
- Trained to silence fire alarm panel under guidance by Environmental Health and Safety staff. Can access the fire panel to check the overall status indicator alarms and any error messages. Notes any abnormalities or alerts present.
- Performs essential duties during any emergencies, such as hurricanes, storms and/or any other University emergency closing. Is expected to be available to report to work as needed during University emergency closings with appropriate notification by department administrator.
- Perform other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for mechanical trades or a high school diploma and three (3) years of appropriate experience.
- Valid Florida Driver's - Class E
Desired Qualifications
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building construction, maintenance, and/or repair work.
