General Statement of Job
Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled and limited skilled work of a varied nature involving the maintenance of buildings and other facilities. Duties require considerable contact with tenants and the general public. Tasks include work such as minor carpentry, basic electrical and plumbing repairs, plastering and painting in the maintenance of Housing Authority properties; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
Performs preventive building maintenance duties, caulks windows and doors, repairs and replaces broken windows.
Performs routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks or urinals, fixing water leaks, leaking faucets and water fountains.
Performs routine electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs or fluorescent lamps and assists in repairing ballasts and light fixtures.
Uses a variety of hand and power tools.
Assembles and moves furniture, hangs pictures and bulletin boards.
Repairs and replaces door knobs or locks, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls.
Assist more skilled workers with general labor duties in installation and repair of gas, sewer and water lines as well as installation/repair of plumbing fixtures and air conditioning.
Cleans and/or makes basic repairs to stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners.
Paints interior and exterior walls.
Performs routine vehicle and lawn equipment repairs.
Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
A High School diploma or GED and at least one (1) year prior experience in general building/facilities maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required as is. Possession of a valid Florida driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment and methods commonly used in the custodial care and cleaning of buildings, facilities and equipment.
- Knowledge of maintenance practices related to basic carpentry, plumbing, plastering, painting and electricity.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to read and follow instructions.
- Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
- Skill in using hand and power tools required to perform duties of the position.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, residents and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to drive, stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. The Housing Authority promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing.

Pay: $37,680.78 - $57,223.05 per year
