HVAC Technician – Job Description
Summit VT Solutions is seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC installation technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong and diverse background in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, as well as the ability to diagnose and repair a variety of HVAC issues efficiently. As an HVAC technician, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in commercial and industrial settings. Your role involves working with various HVAC equipment and ensuring that installations meet safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Installation of HVAC Systems:
- Determine the right material needed for installation work by pre-measuring jobs.
- Receive all materials and equipment required for each job, confirm, and load them into the company vehicle.
- Install heating, cooling, and ventilation systems according to company policies, blueprints, manufacturers specifications, and local building codes. This includes handling and assembling components such as furnaces, air conditioning units, ductwork, thermostats, and ventilation fans.
- Perform installation of copper refrigerant lines to air conditioning units, including brazing and soldering.
2. System Testing and Calibration:
- Test newly installed HVAC systems to ensure proper functionality and performance. Adjust and calibrate components as needed to optimize efficiency and meet manufacturer specifications.
3. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with HVAC systems, including identifying and repairing mechanical and electrical problems. Replace faulty components, such as motors, compressors, valves, and control devices, to restore system operation.
4. Ductwork Fabrication and Installation:
- Measure to have ductwork fabricated internally or by others.
- Install ductwork to distribute heated or cooled air throughout designated spaces. Ensure that ducts are properly sealed, insulated, and aligned to optimize airflow and energy efficiency.
- Perform installation of flex and sheet metal duct systems in light commercial and industrial applications
5. Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on HVAC equipment to prolong lifespan and prevent breakdowns. This may include cleaning coils, replacing filters, lubricating moving parts, and inspecting electrical connections.
6. Customer Service:
- Interact with clients to discuss HVAC needs, explain installation procedures, and address any concerns or questions they may have. Provide recommendations for system upgrades or improvements based on client preferences and budget constraints.
7. Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries on job sites. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow proper procedures for handling hazardous materials, working at heights, and operating machinery.
8. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation details, equipment specifications, maintenance logs, and service reports. Communicate job progress, issues encountered, and any additional requirements to supervisors or project managers.
- Provide necessary support to other team members to be able to complete tasks on time as instructed by management.
- Create and maintain cordial and collaborative working relationships with both superiors and co-workers.
- Ensure all paperwork needed for each job is accurately filled out.
- Perform any other duty that may be directed by management.
9. Continuing Education:
- Stay updated on industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes related to HVAC systems. Participate in training programs and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in the field.
Qualifications

- Masters or journeyman license
- Possession of 2-5 years of HVAC installation experience beyond apprenticeship
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Relevant certification or license (e.g., EPA 608 certification)
- Proficiency in copper pipe bending and high-quality installation methods
- Strong ability to distinguish between various HVAC equipment
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Honest and dependable personality
- Ability to display professional company image
- Self-motivated individual with strong ability to follow instructions and work alone, as well as work effectively within a team
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks in various environments and conditions
- Strong ability to write and read in English language
- Ability to work on weekends and to work overtime
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check for criminality (if required)

Pay: $38.00 - $42.00 per hour
