Superintendents work closely with project managers and foremen to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for all activities at the construction site, including: providing a safe and productive work environment, scheduling all job site activities, and ensuring projects stays within the estimated budget. You will use your industry knowledge and experience to supervise and mentor a team of craftsmen; to coordinate project tasks with users, outside subcontractors and vendors; and to anticipate and proactively manage any problems that may arise throughout construction.
Required Experience
- Minimum of ten years experience in mechanical and plumbing contracting with five years experience as a project superintendent required.
- Experience as a project superintendent should include experience both: (1) directing field teams in hydronic HVAC piping, ductwork, and large equipment; and (2) coordinating the work of subcontractors who insulate duct and piping, install temperature controls, fabricate and install sheet metal, etc.
- High school diploma, GED, or diploma equivalent required.
- Able to effectively plan, organize, prioritize and delegate tasks, and control the work process.
- Strong understanding of estimating process. Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and specifications.
- Works well independently, under pressure, and without close supervision.
- Willing and able to consistently work the schedule required by job demands.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Stable work history showing responsibility, productivity, and professional growth.
- Able to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle (as evidenced by past driving performance record) and to adhere to all company safety requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand, walk, talk, see with 20/20 vision (naturally or corrected), hear within normal range, and perform repetitive motion activities.
- Able to maintain precision and concentration during physically demanding tasks. Includes ability to:
- Tolerate extreme environmental conditions (with use of personal protective equipment) including: extreme heat, cold, noise, vibration, fumes, dusts, poor ventilation, gases, and oils.
- Independently lift and carry objects with weights ranging from 20 to 80 pounds.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, etc. * Able to work skillfully with both hands throughout the day including: twist, finger, grasp, and feel equipment and materials.
- May be exposed to wet slippery floors, objects on floor, and various chemicals and sharp objects.
- Able to work 8 hours per day on surfaces that may be dirt, carpet, concrete, wood, tile, and/or vinylCore Job Responsibilities:
- Enforces safety rules and company policies to reduce job site hazards and to promote a high degree of professionalism.
- Host on-site safety meetings and briefings regularly to make sure field team is knowledgeable of all project requirements and standards.
- Briefs project foremen on all contract key terms, conditions, inclusions, and exclusions.
- Plans project specific work schedule, delegates manpower on site, and coordinates with vendors and subcontractors for all deliveries and on-site installations.
- Ensures all maintenance, demolition, and installation is conducted according to plans, specifications, and Texas state codes.
- Coordinates and works with owners, general contractors, and major subcontractors to manage any challenges that arise and to maintain job progress throughout project duration.
- Ensures project progresses smoothly and is completed in an organized and timely manner.
- Notifies project management of job-site emergencies, work interferences, and schedule difficulties.
- Writes and maintains a detailed daily record of all jobsite activities.
- Keeps accurate record of employee time sheets by reporting time and tasks completed to project management consistently and frequently.
- Maintains control over the projects tools, inventory, equipment, and security. Coordinates placement and storage of materials, tools, and supplies used during construction.
- Organizes and executes project closeout. Ensures that all punch list items are completed in a timely manner and that the owner is completely satisfied with the quality of work.
