Position Purpose:
The Apprentice/Helper Engineer will assist with general engineering operations, performing preventive maintenance, and continuous monitoring and operation of all building systems. The position will have a strong focus on building mechanicals, electrical equipment, troubleshooting/repairing facility equipment, upkeep of facility grounds and learning the core functions of an operating engineer.
- Complete special tasks that include but are not limited to painting, locksmith work, electrical, rounding, and general maintenance as assigned.
- Assist other operational staff members in the repair and maintenance of building equipment.
- (Under supervision) Perform maintenance and monitor repairs to the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems for the building to keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned.
- Comply with policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Maintain records for work completed in a neat and organized manner
- Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, general maintenance and technical proficiency.
- Ensure the availability of an adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies and develop sources for stock materials related to maintaining the facility.
- Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain a clean and safe workplace.
- Demonstrate the ability to learn and understand compressed air systems and their supporting components.
- Perform additional job duties as requested.
- Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
- Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years technical training through Local 399
- Three to five years experience.
- Posess the skill to recognize troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment
- Ability to problem-solve
- Ability and knowledge to operate power tools and equipment
- Knowledge of general maintenance of equipment, buildings and grounds
Physical Requirements:
- Capable of lifting at least 50lbs and using ladders up to 12 feet.
- The individual in this role must be available for call-in work and perform other duties as required.
