Job Summary:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for electrical projects in the commercial construction sector. This role involves analyzing project plans, identifying labor, materials, and time requirements, and preparing proposals for potential and existing clients. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of electrical systems, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and other documents to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates.
- Perform material takeoffs and estimate labor costs for commercial electrical systems, including wiring, fixtures, and electrical equipment.
- Identify any potential risks or challenges within the project and account for them in the estimate.
- Prepare detailed and organized cost breakdowns, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
- Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure that estimates align with company objectives and client expectations.
- Prepare and submit competitive bids within deadlines, ensuring all project specifications are met.
- Communicate with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain quotes and clarify project requirements.
- Assist project managers during the handover process, providing insight into the cost estimates and budget considerations.
- Support the project team throughout the execution phase by offering cost-saving recommendations and monitoring potential variances between actual and estimated costs.
- Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and other external stakeholders to obtain the best pricing and ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
- Attend client meetings, site visits, and pre-construction conferences as needed to clarify scope and ensure understanding of client expectations.
- Stay updated on the latest market trends, material costs, and industry standards in the commercial electrical field.
- Adjust estimates based on current market conditions and changes in codes, regulations, or technology.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical estimating, specifically within commercial projects.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and regulations. Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of accounts receivables specialists to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Strong proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to analyze complex project plans and specifications.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to work with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
- Journeyman or Master Electrician license preferred but not required.
Work Environment:
- This role is situated within a professional office environment and regularly utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- While executing job responsibilities, the employee will regularly engage in verbal communication. Additionally, physical demands include standing, walking, manual dexterity tasks, and reaching.
- Occasional physical activities may include sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The position involves frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.
- This is a full-time position with working hours scheduled from Monday through Friday.
