The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) provides transportation services for 150,000-200,000 customers on a typical week day, or about 45 million rides annually, through a variety of services. In 2016, RTA provided 18.1 million vehicle-miles of service on all modes - HealthLine, bus, Paratransit, light rail, heavy rail, and vanpools. The Greater Cleveland RTA is searching for an HVAC Mechanic- for our Hayden District.
Detailed Description
Duties: Troubleshoots and repairs all components of the air conditioning systems on GCRTA air-conditioned buses and non-revenue vehicles. Troubleshoots and repairs all components of the vehicle heating systems. Performs preventative maintenance, carries out scheduled services, and makes adjustments to all components related to the heating and air conditioning systems on GCRTA buses and non-revenue vehicles. Completes all required paperwork. Trains and gives technical direction to grade 4 mechanics and grade 5's. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Applicants must also have two (2) years experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing vehicle heating, A/C and electrical systems. Knowledge of proper soldering and brazing techniques is required. The applicant must have the ability to obtain AC Certification within forty-five (45) days of appointment. Application must have EPA approved certification as prescribed in the Clean Air Act of 1990. Applicant must have a GOOD DRIVING RECORD, with no more than FOUR (4) POINTS, in the past three years. Applicant must have a valid STATE OF OHIO COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL) Class “A” or “B” with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements or A TEMPORARY CDL, Class “A” or “B" with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.

Additional Information: The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position.

Environmental Conditions: This person will work in a District Garage environment with diesel fumes, airborne dust/dirt, and temperature extremes.
Physical Demands: Must work in and on vehicles - coaches, railcars, trucks, automobiles etc. Must be able to climb a ladder. Must be able to service antennas on the rooftop of vehicles. Must be able to install and remove equipment weighing in excess of 75 Lbs. Must be able to drive a vehicle. Must be able to load and unload equipment from vehicles. Must be able to work any shift schedule.
Mental Demands: Must be proficient in computer skills to record work orders, program software and radios. Must be able to do detail work on small circuit board components. Must be able to read and understand complex service manuals and electrical schematics. Must be able to communicate effectively both written and verbally. Must be able to use hand tools and operate sophisticated electrical test equipment.
Examination Information: Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows: Internal - Written (Must Pass) - 42.5%, Interview 42.5%, Eligibility Certification 15%; External - Written (Must Pass) - 50%, Interview 50%.
All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion. Candidates that meet the minimum requirements and are selected to continue in the process will be sent an email notification. Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting.
