The City of Pasadena – Public Works Department is currently seeking an experienced journey level HVAC Technician (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) to perform journey level work on a variety of facility related equipment, including but not limited to: all types of HVAC systems, exhaust systems, associated control systems, and duct systems. Technician will occasionally provide: basic refrigeration assessments and repairs (e.g., freezers and ice machines); Building Automation Systems (BAS) support.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will be versatile in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, including but not limited to: boilers, chillers (reciprocating and centrifugal), cooling towers, heat pumps, split systems, package units, air handling equipment, VFDs, VAVs, VRFs, fan coils, pumps, and motors. Candidate will occasionally provide the following: refrigeration assessments and repairs (e.g., freezers and ice machines); BAS support. An understanding of, and ability to measure, air and water balance and IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) is desirable. This person will have excellent communication skills, strong customer service skills, boundless energy, a strong work ethic, is a team player, and also works well independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Three years of journey level experience in the maintenance, repair and installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, equipment, with emphasis on: electronic controls systems and equipment powered from low voltage up to and including 480-3 phase.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Five or more years of recent experience
- Universal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification
SELECTION PROCESS The selection process will consist of an evaluation of training and experience and the most highly qualified candidates may be invited to participate in a written examination and a department-level interview.
VACANCY INFORMATION There is currently one full-time vacancy in the Building Systems and Fleet Management Division of the Public Works Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period.
This position involves frequent travel to various sites and locations; in addition to performing emergency call out work during and after working hours, which may include weekends.
Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of employment.
